Two police officers will NOT face charges after Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot dead in 2020 outside Wendy's in Atlanta since their 'deadly force was reasonable'

Two Atlanta Police Department officers will not face charges in the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks, who was killed two years ago outside a Wendy's restaurant, after a prosecutor said 'their deadly force was reasonable.'

Officer Garrett Rolfe fatally shot Brooks, 27, twice in the back as he ran from cops outside the fast food store in South Atlanta in June 2020. The officers were trying to arrest him in the parking lot.

Rolfe and his colleague, Officer Devin Brosnan, were initially called to the restaurant by customers who said a man was asleep at the wheel, blocking the drive-through.

Brooks' death sparked fierce protests at the time - having occurred just weeks after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis. The Wendy's that Brooks was shot dead at was burned to the ground by protestors the following day.

But now, the amount of deadly force used by the cops has been deemed 'reasonable' and the case has been dropped.

Pete Skandalakis, executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, made the announcement on Tuesday.

Skandalakis said: 'Based on the facts and circumstances confronting Officer Rolfe and Officer Brosnan in this case, it is my conclusion the use of deadly force was objectively reasonable and that they did not act with criminal intent.'

Brosnan was previously charged with aggravated assault and violating his oath, and Rolfe faced 11 counts over Brooks' death, including felony murder.

Brooks had fallen asleep at the wheel in a drive-thru line for about 40 minutes - and when the officers attempted to arrest him on a DUI charge, he resisted.

The man consented to a portable field alcohol test and it was returned with a result above the legal limit of .08 blood alcohol content.

Cause and effect. Not their strong point.

The question is will there be federal charges and if not federal charges do these officers get their jobs back?

An article I read said they were given administrative desk jobs and will re-certify as beat cops..
