I wonder if that’s part of the reason why certain online vendors won’t ship into certain states like California.

I don't even have to look. I know that the Gay State (Massachusetts) is tracking every damn move I make...every damn word I utter (or type). After all,the Gay State was the source of that 9-0 SCOTUS decision in “Caetano v Massachusetts”...a decision which contained the observation by the author of the decision that the state's Supreme Court put forth a “frivolous” argument in denying Caetano her God given right to protect herself with a weapon the possession of which it claimed wasn't protected by the 2nd Amendment.

That's Rat Party Headquarters’ strategy...make gun makers and distributors so nervous that exercising your rights is damn near impossible. For example,in New York the state enacted numerous little...and not so little...laws making it difficult to exercise your rights within hours of the recent SCOTUS decision that completely slapped down the state's legislature and courts.

The Lord led me to a decision that was one of the most important in my entire life back in 2008. I bought my acreage in rural Kentucky, and moved here from Seattle in 2011. My life is completely different and freer now than I could ever imagine it would have been had I stayed in seattle.
Can I put this decision on the lord, not my wisdom. It was completely outside my personality traits and my risk aversion to make this decision and yet here I am.

Smuggling ammo from one state to another is getting to be like smuggling cigarettes out of North Carolina (where the tobacco taxes were negligible) to New York City a few years ago.
I don’t know, maybe that is still going on. The cops catch anyone doing it, they give the perp one helluva beatdown before the actual arrest. Think how much more motivated they would be with a find of ammo.

Cash to a fault. But if you live in those states, internet sales of ammo are banned and background checks are required prior to in-store sale.
Hence the 'tracking you' claim.

I’m in Tennessee. Went to a huge flea market last weekend. The busiest ‘booth’ was the ammo seller. Mags and all sorts of ammo. Pretty inexpensive. I was like a kid in a candy store.

Great. New York and New Jersey are right next door to Pennsylvania. I guess this is one of the reasons I see license plates from NY & NJ in the parking lot of my favorite gun store. Plenty from MD too.

When I lived in California, I would buy my ammo in Nevada just because I didn’t want to deal with a background check every time. Just don’t buy at the store closest to the border and drive right back into CA - the CA authorities have been known to have undercover officers in those stores looking for purchasers with California plates, and have them pulled over once they cross the state border back into CA.

= = =
CA requires a background check for ammo purchases.
A normal citizen cannot order ammo to be delivered to his own location. It must be delivered to an FFL, who will complete the transaction, including background check and purchaser’s personal data.
Some vendors do not want to put up with the extra cr*p.
Some do not want to face legal issues and risk their business for some ‘improper’ (in CA’s eyes) transaction.
Some vendors just say ‘Screw you CA’, and your people.

Yep. And if you happen to bury one in return, well, make it more than one, a lot more. Because you're not going to be allowed to live after that, even if you surrender.
Like John Ross said, "The first one you kill will cost your your life. All the rest are free." Those are the rules of engagement as defined by them.
