All of my go-to reference is in bound form and that won’t change for me. I actually prefer bound books for everything because I just love books, but I’m running out of room, my bound favorites are getting dog-eared, and I have no one to lend them to or leave them to anyway because nobody I know reads. So I am gradually moving toward e-books for preserving my favorites and for new books. and, except for the few valued reference books, will probably end up donating them or tossing the rest and my library will cease to exist when I do.

My current paper books fill 250 linear feet of bookshelf space. I had to go with PDF for the 200+ technical books that I need to perform work for my employer. I simply could not deal with paper in a physical office as I had to support activities from my home office in Idaho, the company office in San Diego and another company office in Omaha, NE. My Digital Signal Processing books are a mix of paper and e-books. The e-book versions also have downloadable source code. That was a big win to have significant amounts of the routines already in electronic form. In recent years, the advent of "github" has become an online resource of curated and maintained open source software.

One thing I did 10 years ago was to keep my e-books on hard disk with Bluray backups. It's getting harder to find Bluray media to do that in recent years. It's very convenient to spin off 22 GB of PDF files to a secure copy.
