The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Turkey Vulture. I ran into some turkeys driving up. The feathered kind. They loiter on the road when they see an approaching vehicle.
