SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – A motorcycle flew off the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to California Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist was struck by a Mini Cooper when the car was merging into the fast lane, and the bike flew off the bridge, though the motorcyclist stayed on the bridge, Officer Mark Andrews told KRON4.
The motorcyclist transported himself to a hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the Mini Cooper was not cited. The CHP told KRON4 they did attempt to retrieve the motorcycle, but were unsuccessful. They sent a dive team into the water but were unable to locate it and will make another attempt at a later date.
Earlier on Friday, one person died in a crash near the entrance to the bridge’s toll plaza, backing traffic up for several miles.
You’d think running a motorcycle off of a bridge would at least get you an unsafe lane change ticket or something.
I can’t imagine why they’d bother. It’s not deep, but still in excess of 30 feet. Why are my taxpayer dollars being used to recover it?
Ok, call Gieco or whatever.
Like children with a blank checkbook.
Dirty Harry Magnum Force. Motorcycle flies off old carrier.

Haha.haha. good catch..typo.
How did the motorcyclist get off the motorcycle with minor injuries while his motorcycle fell off the bridge? Perhaps fell would have been a better word than flew? This was in the fast lane, so they were both going about 70 mph. Besides which, did he walk to the hospital?
F=MA
The bike has (had?) a lot more mass so it goes skidding off (it has less friction too) while the rider tumbles across the asphalt. I don’t know how some of these riders survive those crashes. A lot of them don’t. I had to drive past a motorcycle crash site to work every day. For several weeks the paint was on the asphalt with various painted circles strewn over 50 feet of the road. From the various sizes I figured one was a helmet, others were gloves, boots, etc.
I’m guessing the writer doesn’t know how the biker got to the hospital either. “So boss, I got to the scene right away. There was an ambulance and cops looking for the rider but then they got a call that he was at the hospital - what should I write!?”
Helmets hadn’t been invented yet.
May he flew too?
Oh, but they do!
"Weeeeee!"
The reporter should say “was transported” rather than “transported himself” if he didn’t know how the motorcyclist got to the hospital. However, he probably didn’t go to the best community college.
Motorcycles can’t fly.
They may fall up temporarily, but gravity always wins.
Maybe the author was taught not to use passive voice so did not say “was transported”. I wonder what they pay their reporters to write crap like that. Don’t they have copy editors and proof readers any more?
Another Attack Mini Cooper.
The MC rider did not get cited because that isn’t what happened. Pay attention.
In fact, the individual in the car who was at fault, should expect to have nice fat lawsuit filed on them.
“”The motorcyclist was *struck by a Mini Cooper* when the car was merging into the fast lane, and the bike flew off the bridge, though the motorcyclist stayed on the bridge, Officer Mark Andrews told KRON4.””

Several hundred thousand should make it right, depending on the MC riders injuries.
It’s comforting to know the iron you and I ride would put up a bigger fight against a Mini Cooper . . .
