And, yes, they should start using the term petroleum products instead of fossil fuels.
In a true free market economy, natural gas is cheaper by a long shot. In case anyone hasn't noticed, Biden has destroyed the free market economy and substituted a state controlled economy, dictating everything from the car you drive, to the medicine you take, to the way you heat and cool your house.
These people want us freezing in the dark, or sweating in the unbearable heat.
You cannot power modern civilization with wind and solar.
It is the lifetime cost per megawatt-hour of electricity over the life of the plant.
It does not take into account the time distribution of demand or the time distribution of power generation.
This would be Ok, if we had magic batteries that were free, with infinite capacity.
Such batteries do not exist.
Indeed, but it appears the "elites" don't want people in "modern societies."
Unless stopped, a new Dark Age period will be upon us.
It does really matter what an individual Kw of power costs. What matters is how many you can economically and reliably produce 24 hours per day. Even ‘cheap’ electricity that is intermittent and dependent on the unpredictably of the sun shining or the wind blowing cannot power a first world economy.
O'Biden and his handlers are intentionally going to destroy ALL of America.. We know who they are, we can say their name. But, the sheep just stand around and bleat... :(
I’m afraid of what’s in store for us.
I cannot believe that wind and solar will ever in my lifetime be cheaper than coal, gas and nuclear powered electric generation. Show me legitimate numbers without subsidies!
“It would be nice if the author would tell us what “Levelized Cost of Electricity” is defined as.”
He does, in the last paragraph, at least enough for to understand. But I agree, he could spend more time on it.
Basically it goes like this: Electricity consumption varies GREATLY over time, it varies greatly by the second, the minute, the hour, the day of the week (or holiday), and the time of year. So there must be a means to store energy, and here are the means:
Nuke Plants: The Uranium that is prevented from performing its heat-creating fission reaction by the rods inserted into it.
Coal Plants: By the huge piles of coal sitting next to the generators.
Oil and Gas Fired Plants: By the huge tanks that store oil and natural gas.
Hydroelectric: By the water sitting upstream of the plant.
Solar/Wind: Nothing at this point.
The problem is that the storage cost is very, very, low for all but solar/wind (basically zero for hydro), but incredibly high for solar/wind (batteries or pumped water storage).
So they ‘conveniently’ leave out the storage cost for solar/wind. After all, the price of electricity was already TRIPLE the US price in Europe before Putin’s unprovoked (LOL) attack on Ukraine. Since then, the price, at least in Germany has doubled again (to roughly 60 cents per kwh, retail, which is more than the fuel cost of running a portable generator in the US).
But NEVER FORGET, the Globalists now in power know EXACTLY what they’re doing. The math is easy, and they can do it just as easily as we can.
Thanks for posting that.
It is so hard to get to the bottom of their “facts”.
Even the “experts” don’t know the whole story.
Anthropomorphic Climate change. The Alinsky/Commie flavor of the past few decades.
Thanks.
I don’t see how someone can write an article with LCOE in the title and beat around the bush so long not saying what it is.
Yes, without storage renewables are not.
I’ve never considered the “storage” aspect of energy. There’s cost to get the coal “sitting next to the generators”. But once it’s there...it’s cheap to keep. Plus, there’s no loss of energy as there is with a battery.
If one considers the actual cost of electrical generation, i.e. not skewed by government intervention, wind power is among the most expensive sources due to the high cost of maintenance and the intermittent nature of the wind. Solar is also expensive due to the fact you can only generate power on average 50% of the time and the need for large area arrays due to the diffuse nature of solar radiation. Solar photovoltaic is even more expensive due to the expensive raw materials need to produce the solar cells.
Could we start with Congress and our feral agencies in and around and out to say 75 miles from the DC Beltway
just imagine the storage cost of nuclear. Leaving all that uranium sitting around in the earth’s crust for 4.5 Billion years, just decaying away. Calculate the depreciation on that alone - of coure in fairness after another few billion years we are going to have to change out the sun or at least planet earth.
Could you explain what that is, how it is arrived at and why it is fraudulent?
The article concerns a host of people all living in the electric past
When the time is ripe, Elon Musk will reveal inexpensive and small nuclear power generators that will provide clean juice for not only EV’s but for many other electric power users as well. One his companies will make them
Elon Musk is a disruptor and the necessity for electricity to charge batteries is within his purview.
