“1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster by Sindelfingen”
Last summer one of these (could have been a K, an SK or SSK) in white drove past our house. It was stunning in white!
“I want a 1963 Chevy Corvette split window coupe.
Thanks in advance.”
Here’s a nice one for sale (and it’s a GREAT old car auction site):

BTTT!!!
Decades ago, the Monterey Rugby Football Club provided volunteers to staff the valet parking for this event to raise money for charity.
An amazing event and great time.
No way is that going for $57 K.
In 1961, I had a chance to buy a Mercedes 300 #lr in Hong Kong for $10,500. With what I was paid in the Marine Crps, it might as well been $143 million!
Never said it would.
Six day left to get your bin in...
this is clickbait post
I wasn’t saying you said that, I was just thinking “aloud”.
I will watch it though.
Super!
There is a search function on the BAT site...
I believe a factory fulie ‘63 Split Window (only year as we both know) brought some BIG money.
Have a great weekend, FRiend!
You as well, take care.
What I want for my classic cars are 5: 1978 Country Squire with the side facing seats and the game table, a Corvair Monza Station wagon, 68 Opel GT, 1912 Pope Hartford and a 1972 Mustang Mach 1.
EEGator,
My cousin got a 63 from his dad for his 63 high school graduation. Kept it as his main vehicle for 40 years driving it all the time. About 20 years ago he traded it for a new loaded Lincoln MK9.
He kept that for only a short while and then got hooked on Dodge Vipers with the V10 and had a 15 year series of three. I don’t know what he drives now as he lives in the Caribbean most of the time.
I’ll bet none of them are made in America. Now why is that?
Why can’t American car companies compete with the best of the best in all categories?
Why can’t American schools compete with the best of the best?
” The classic cars from 60 years ago can all be worked on, modified and maintained by their owners.”
Going out to work on my67 Camaro right now. I replace plastic parts with metal where I can. It will be running long after my 18 yo niece who will inherit it is gone.
The USA minimum wage was $1.15 per hour in 1961.
$10,500 - about five years of saving everything you earned.
When my Dad joined the Army after Pearl Harbor in 1942, his first paycheck was like $18 a month!
One of the most significant racing Ferraris ever built, this 410 was one of just two built and was raced by legends Juan Manuel Fangio and Carroll Shelby. Shelby won more races in this 410, known as “0598 CM,” than in any other car during his racing career. It’s being auctioned by RM Sotheby’s. "
John Hughes destroyed the company that built that "Ferrari" kit car by featuring it in Ferris Bueller. Making a Ferrari replica is legal but using Ferrari badges identical to the real thing isn't. Ferrari sued the company (Modena Design and Development) out of existence.
You could tell it was a kit car when they showed the odometer because no factory Ferrari ever built had Smiths instruments. The VW Type taillights also give it away but aren't so obvious.
Hughes originally wanted a classic Merc for the role but was smitten by a photo of the Ferrari replica he saw in a car mag. Glassmoyer and Goyette probably wish the advert had been a little less eye-catching.
The car they pushed through the window of the garage was a fiberglass-bodied roller built exclusively for that shot.
Some of the Modena D&D "Ferraris" that were completed before Ferrari put the kibosh on them have brought (low) six figures at auction.
