The steamship Trade Wind, Capt. ABBOTT, from New-Orleans 6th inst., via Key West 10th, arrived at this port yesterday.
From the passengers we learn that the report had reached News-Orleans that the rebels, under BRECKINRIDGE, had on the 5th inst. made an attack on Baton Rouge, and were repulsed after a severe engagement, in which Gen. WILLIAMS had his head shot off by a cannonball.
The Trade Wind brought me passengers Mr. John McGinnis and lady, Dr. White and lady, L. Seibert, C.F. Miller, C.L. Andrews, E.M. Murphy, Mr. Andrews, Dr. J.P. Pinckard, U.S.N., and S.T. Blessing.
The Picayune announces that Gen. BUTLER has appointed Mr. ALFRED SHAW Recorder of Mortgages and Mr. FELIX MCCULLOCK Register of Conveyances Both offices are now fully organized.
A party of fifty or sixty negroes (says the Picayune) from plantations below the city -- some make the number very much greater -- came into the city early yesterday morning, and went -- we know not where. The negro question is becoming a very important and a very troublesome one.
There were 1,729 families supplied at the Free Market, on the 7th, with the following provisions: 2,100 pounds bacon, 6,800 pounds rice, 9 bbls. molasses, 22 bushels peas, 3 bbls. vinegar.

NEW-ORLEANS, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1862.
As I have called your attention to the subject of the guerrilla warfare now going on in this and the adjoining States, and supplied you with the newspaper accounts, it may not be uninteresting to know some of the details of the matters hinted at in our local sheets.
