Residents in Portland, Oregon are resorting to selling their homes to escape the worsening homeless crisis, as more encampments pop up in residential neighborhoods.
Homeless encampments have grown severely in certain neighborhoods in North Portland, particularly along the Peninsula Crossing Trail.
The trail was once a popular bike route but has become home to a large population of homeless people including some who suffer from mental illness and some who use drugs.
One realtor in the area said that she's seen a surge of residents moving to the suburbs over the past two years.
'Most people don’t want to have to worry about if they can leave their car parked in their driveway overnight without maybe having it broken into,' Lauren Iaquinta told KGW8.
The real estate broker said it's a 'testy subject,' and said the issue can be unpredictable due to homeless people settling down wherever they want.

Poor Slim. Indian Love Song gets no respect. 😉
The story goes a few years ago nearby in San Pedro, CA. the homeless were camped out along side an apartment complex and the manager installed a speaker that played Barney’s theme song 24/7. It worked, the bums whined but ultimately left.
But who is buying ???
I wish no good for Portland.
They deserve what they are getting!
“...and some who use drugs.”
There was a documentary on Seattle going downhill and the reporter was taking a walk through the homeless on the streets, with a former homeless woman that is now trying to get them help and off the streets.
Reporter: “So they say that 80% of the homeless have an addiction problem. Is that really true!!??”
Woman: “No - that’s not true. It is 100%. I lived here for two years. Everyone here has an addiction problem.”
I believe that was, “Seattle is Dying” - very eye-opening.
There are many reasons people no longer want to buy homes, and that movie highlights some; imagine committing to 30 years of mortgage payments and watching your neighborhood fall apart. You’re bound to payments on something that is losing value quickly, and nobody will want it (never mind thirty years later - it can happen a couple of years after you buy it).
In my area that is happening with Replacement Americans flooding into neighborhoods while apartment buildings are built on any available space (with affordable housing requirements for x% of the units).
