When 30 FBI agents showed up at Mar-a-Lago to cart off boxes of documents, it was an authorized, legitimate and justified procedure to retrieve national security secrets being illegally kept there.
Or it was an unprecedented regime raid on the home and office of the foremost political rival of President Joe Biden that called to mind a "Third World country," the East German Stasi, the KGB or the Gestapo.
And Jan. 6, 2021?
That was a riot, a disgraceful breach of the Capitol, involving assaults on Capitol cops, actions that deserved to be and are being punished.
No, it was more than that. Far more. It was an "insurrection," a "fascist coup," an act of treason led by far-right extremists to abort the transfer of power from the winner of the election of 2020 to the loser. It ranks right up there with the 1814 burning of the Capitol by the British.
Such is the magnitude of the divide in America, a divide that extends far beyond our clashing views of Jan. 6 and the Mar-a-Lago raid.
Consider abortion. Before the 1960s, abortion was almost universally regarded as a shameful and criminal act. Doctors who performed abortions were disgraced and sometimes sent to prison.
But after the Dobbs decision by the Supreme Court declared that Roe v. Wade in 1973 was wrongly decided, restoration of women's right to an abortion is being championed by half the nation.
The other half of America yet believes abortion involves the killing of an unborn innocent child.

The big division is not red versus blue states but red versus blue counties. Large parts of red states like New York and California do not share the radical leftists beliefs of the urban areas. The bulk of radical leftist thinking in this country is concentrated the east and west coastal areas plus a few red urban islands in the middle of the country. The media headquartered in these areas and is heavily biased against the middle of the country. Aside from these leftists hotbeds the rest of us can pretty much get along. Trump was elected from these middle America areas and for the first time since Reagan could have united the country except for the vehement Trump hate spewing from these liberal areas that sought to personally destroy him.The left wing media is burning itself out and even traditional Democratic supporting demographics are uniting against the left. The country could come together if the swamp is finally drained.

I think maybe an amical divorce is still possible and may be the only way of preserving any vestiges of the “Great Experiment” for at least a portion of the country. I no longer think we can peacefully coexist much longer. In fact, I think that peaceful coexisting will not be possible by 2024 at the rate we are going.

I pulled a book out of a cruise ship’s library, a scholarly, boring account of America, Britain and France’s situation after winning WW2. I read the introduction and conclusion. Those countries wrestled with every single issue we have now and more with the exception of LGBT and immigration here in the US.
Only way—WAR, a Big War. They will need a 9-11 style event that will kill alot of people and horrify the nation. Like say—a Nuke or Dirty Bomb hit an American City. Maybe in Texas where lots of Republicans live. Ram a plane into Disneyland or Fox News? A Mumbai style attack with 50 armed Islamic raiders to hit La or NY—kill a lot of folks and set bombs? Goad Russia into an attack with a “No Fly Zone” and Military advisors to help Ukraine fight off Russia. Only a war would unite America at this point and I fear one is being planned right now.
