More like “complete lack of evidence”.
Piling up pure speculation on top of more speculation until you convince yourself that there is some tiny probability of a thing existing is not evidence that such a thing actually exists. Otherwise, one could argue by the same method that there should be thousands of planets full of pink Elephant ballerina dancers in the universe, or any other unlikely scenario you could imagine.
“We are the only statistical example of life on a planet, so there is no basis at all for even an estimate.”
Exactly. Every evolutionists’ statistical argument about the inevitably of finding life in the universe fails when confronted with the words “invalid sample size”.
Then let him share the evidence with other reputable scientists to try and replicate his claims.
“and they are not going to politely knock on the door.”

“reality as humans have perceived it is about to change dramatically.”
That’s not even the smallest, most minuscule percentage of it…
I wrote: “As far as I know, there is no reason to believe that there is more than one universe.”
You wrote: “Personally I don’t think we have a clue either way.”
I don’t see a huge gulf between our positions.
Perhaps my view is controversial. That there is more than one universe is controversial also.
I also hold that there are only two sexes. I will make some allowance for those few cases of people born with XXY chromosomes. I reject the view that there are more than 100 genders, each of which must be taken seriously. As you can see, I am no stranger to controversy.
What is coming might be this enormous.
He is in the process of doing this.
The “gender” stuff is just woke insanity—slam dunk.
The “universe” question is not “political”—it is a true mystery with many folks making good faith efforts to understand it.
But there is only one fun universe!
Michio Kaku is vying for the long-vacant Carl Sagan chair in Pop-Science Theater.
I think there is a wide variability in humans.
Some are very arrogant in their views and will not be able to adapt well to major changes (like would be caused by officially acknowledged alien contact).
Others will find it interesting but just carry on with their lives as normal.
Others will find it a wonderful challenge and rise to it.
The old Brookings Institute paper (around 1960) argued that the vast majority of humans fell into the first category.
That may have been true at the time but with modern communications humans have been exposed to a lot of stuff—including ideas they do not like—but at least know of its existence.
My read is that today’s humans (for all their issues—and there is a long list of those) are much more resilient (in terms of ideas and concepts) than their grandparents.
That very much depends on what "it" is.
On top of that, there may be no "normal lives to carry on" with. In other words, it might be hellish beyond our ability to comprehend.
Even the Bible warns that men's hearts will fail them for what is coming on the Earth.
We'll see. I'm not optimistic. If what's coming were positive, it wouldn't be so elusive.
And I've been routinely accused of being an optimist.;-)
My read of “the world” is that it is fractal.
That has some real interesting implications—but one of them is that there is both light and dark everywhere.
So—I am going with that.

"Somber" isn't exactly encouraging.
Homo Sapiens has been through a lot of &^%$ to get from the caves to here—at least some of us will be able to handle it.
Maybe...maybe not. We won’t know until we see it.
Anything else is pure speculation.
Can you imagine if we had the technology and resources to build a Dyson sphere with the idiots we have running the world right now?
We'd be a cold dead planet in 10 years.
First let’s find intelligent life in the Democrat Party, then in the RINO wing of the Republican Party, then in the Government before we look for it in outer space. 🤓
