I miss this man very much. The wisdom displayed in this speech is profound.
Schumer, Pelosi, et al should have to watch this every day.
h/t to my friend Leo in NJ for inspiring me to post this.

President Ronald Reagan’s Farewell Address to the Nation. January 11, 1989

Most of us live in the now and present. Even though many of us were around when President Reagan was in the White House we often forget what a great leader he was.
And while President Trump accomplished many many great things in spite of intense opposition from Republicans and Democrats, he was not quite the greatest president ever as many Freepers believe.
Bush couldn’t wait to undo everything Reagan did.

For the young freepers who think of Reagan as only the great and eloquent statesman of the presidency, they should watch some of his early videos when the fire in his belly and his hardcore conservatism is closer to the surface.
Here is one of those speeches, imagine this in 1964.

I was born about 5 years after he left office. Sometimes I wish that I had been around during his presidency, even if I would have been a small child oblivious to politics.
In between work, and other interruptions, it’s taken me 6 hours to listen to this 20 minute speech. I’m near tears now, listening to be very final message... starting at the 15 minute mark. It’s about Patriotism. How, we’d recovered it, but not institutionalized it. How incredibly prescient this great man was.
I’m 63, and there is no question that Ronald Reagan was the greatest President of my lifetime. Other than Trump, he is the ONLY President I ever voted FOR, and not just AGAINST someone worse. He was Trump, without the rough edges. But, I don’t fault Trump for that. Today’s political world is DO different, much rougher edges are required.
I do miss the eloquence and congeniality of Reagan though. His indomitably optimistic spirit shown brightly through the media negativity. People loved him, despite what the MSM said.
“ People loved him, despite what the MSM said.”
The propaganda media was completely shocked at the outpouring of love for Reagan when he died. I was among the tens or hundreds of thousands of American patriots who lined the DC Mall watching Reagan’s body pass by on its way to lie in state in the Capitol rotunda.
“The propaganda media was completely shocked at the outpouring of love for Reagan when he died.”
So true. When he died we lived next door to the Reagan Library. I walked through the subdivision soon after the news came out, and some of the MSM already were setting up their vans with the satellite dishes on top. I told one that it’s probably going to be busy the next few days. He said they weren’t expecting much. Boy, were they wrong.
When his body was being transported from Port Hueneme to Simi Valley, TPTB estimated how long it would take. It took about an hour longer because they had no idea that EVERY road was going to be lined with throngs of people. And all overpasses were packed with people standing.
They had planned to just make the drive normally, but decided to slow down so the people could get a better view of the hearse and family’s cars.
The “propaganda media” WERE shocked. Their stupid bubble doesn’t let them admit that there are views other than their own.
The television coverage of the transport up to the Reagan library was really moving. It must have been amazing to have seen it in person.
“It must have been amazing to have seen it in person.”
It was. All the roads leading in were closed, but the police let us in the subdivision stand at the corner as the funeral entourage passed by, maybe 20 feet away. Somber.
