After some difficult military indoctrination, our trainee group was ordered to about face as the flag of the USA was raised and the National Anthem was played. An emotional experience for all. I never tire of seeing Old Glory at full staff and hearing the strains of the Star Spangled Banner. In the mid-1970s I knew a girl at work whose fellow Russian language majors at Michigan State University had exchange trips between their Russian counterparts and the Americans. The year after hers an American young man thought it was hilariously funny while in Russia to paint upturned black moustaches on several banner pictures of Lenin on the buildings and poles along the streets.
The Soviets did not have any sense of humor about it, put him in jail and set up a trial which could have imprisoned him. It took months of US State Department and university negotiations to finally get him freed to return without serving further time.

There are some indications in the image that Griner has been doing testosterone and steroid drugs. If she was really born a female, she’s developed some very masculine traits, such as a prominent Adam’s apple and a masculine neck. But the eyebrows, eyes and mouth look female.
