The mascot for a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in New Jersey has become the latest costumed character to be accused of racism.
The incident on July 30 occurred when Natyana Muhammad took her children to the chain's location in Wayne, New Jersey - and the employee playing Chuck E. Cheese allegedly ignored her daughter during a meet-and-greet period.
She posted a video of the encounter to Twitter which shows the employee walk past as a small child holds her hand out for a high-five. Muhammad wrote of the incident: 'My 2-year-old was racially discriminated against.'
'As you can see, he gives all of the [white] kids [high fives] and PURPOSELY ignored my black baby.'
Muhammad, who goes by Umm Safa on Twitter, claims when she confronted the person playing the musical mouse, he ignored her and the restaurant's manager, who she named as Angie Valasquez, 'made excuses for him'.
It comes after a similar incident where two other black girls from New York were apparently snubbed by Rosita at the Sesame Street theme park in Langhorne, outside Philadelphia.
But many have questioned whether the alleged acts of racism could instead be chalked up to the fact that staff members are often wearing unwieldy costumes with low visibility - therefore making them unable to see every child reaching out for attention.
This latest video shows the woman's daughter popping up and down before attempting to high five Chuck E. The character clearly high fives several other kids before walking past the young girl.

I’ve been ignored many times in my lifetime. Would I have known I could “sue” I might be a rich woman. Smh.
“You are entirely too ready to trash this performer without walking a mile in his suit.”
I call them as I see them. It looks like he purposely avoids her and even steps away from her. I can’t be sure that he saw her and you can’t be sure he didn’t. In any case law suits about this stuff are nonsense.
You have a strong point
It’s clear that the 2-year-old ragamuffin will be scarred for life unless Natyana Muhammad, who also goes by Umm Safa, shakes down Chuck E. Cheese for compensation of about $10,000,000.
Unless a brawl ensued, ( a Chuck E. Cheese tradition) , this is a non event.
The company might look at it as way to save money. Avoid future lawsuits and settlements. Firing the costumed employee is cheaper. No more appearances.
The blame goes to lawyers and these racist people who feel they were slighted.
One hopes. Besides their truly foul “food,” Chuck E. Cheese is totally ghetto. There are often shootings at the one near here.
You certainly do shoot from the hip. It’s silly to make judgments w/o facts but whatevah.
Possibly, but it looked to me like he purposely avoided her.
= = =
Could he be in on the scheme?
Ho hum... Another victim of racist snubs.. It isn’t Earth shattering... You were at Chuck E Cheese. Get on with your life bitch!!
how much money will make the kid feel better?
I bet mascot did not see her. Mom could have picked her up
She sees $$$ in her future. Oh for Black Privilege, a wonderful asset.
This is a great chance for this little girl to learn a valuable life lesson.
Never trust a giant rat.
Half of two-year-olds don’t even know how to high-five, much less do it on command or with a stranger. They often need a decent bit of prompting to do so. And, they certainly aren’t going to hold it up for more than two seconds waiting for someone else to high-five them.
The low-visibility excuse is kinda weak. Usually there’s an additional staff member to help with that, and this guy’s job is to be kid-interactive entertainment.
I’d wager on the two-year-old not actually having their hand up waiting for a high-five.
