Scant news today. Not only are we in a period of slow news days, but page 4 of today’s Times Machine News is cut off at the bottom, meaning few usable editorials and no “Important from Washington”. – HJS

The Vicksburg Battlefield is preserved and well represented with a drive-through and museum. It is a mandatory experience for all history buffs and Civil War fanatics.

The Petersburg, VA battle/siege is well preserved. I would recommend it after visiting Richmond.

Ft. Lee borders the battlefield. Use to run there every morning for PT.
