Body of Thread: The United States steamship Matanzas, Capt., LEISGANY, arrived at this port last night, from New-Orleans at 8 o'clock on the morning of the 25th inst. She brought the following passengers:

The health of the city continued good, though the weather was very hot.
The news by this arrival, which is five days later, is interesting, though not specially important.

Great disappointment prevails here that the Mississippi River is not opened, and the idea is gaining ground that the rebels are concentrating in and about Vicksburgh, intending to make that point another Corinth. Certain it is, that the people of the Great West have great cause of complaint as well as the citizens of New-Orleans. Two months ago Vicksburgh could have been taken and held by a few hundred men;

The Vicksburg Battlefield is preserved and well represented with a drive-through and museum. It is a mandatory experience for all history buffs and Civil War fanatics.
One of the many sites I hope to see if I can ever get out of California.
The Petersburg, VA battle/siege is well preserved. I would recommend it after visiting Richmond.
Ft. Lee borders the battlefield. Use to run there every morning for PT.
