NEW YORK (CNN) – A mysterious red glow above the Pacific Ocean has internet sleuths fishing for answers. From a cockpit 31,000 feet over the ocean, pilot Dustin Maggard saw and photographed a mysterious red glow below.

I recall not long ago watching an episode of “What on Earth?” on the Science Channel. They are fishing boats. They use extremely bright lights to get fish and squid in some cases to come up to the surface where they are ensnared in nets.
