The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

I got the quote, and the first name of the author, but had to do a google search to get the middle initial, and last name.
Neither the author or his biographers would have characterized him as “brilliant” the way Pauli or Bohr were. Rather, he was persistent and dogged, intellectually curious, and not easily satisfied with pat or partial answers. This quote pretty much sums up his outlook on life.
