Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has made about £3m in just a few hours through a sale of his debut art collection.
Depp sold 780 prints through Castle Fine Art's 37 galleries, including in London's Covent Garden, within hours of announcing the sale on Instagram.
The Friends And Heroes collection depicts people who have inspired him, including Rolling Stone Keith Richards and Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor.
"I've always used art to express my feelings," the 59-year-old said.
"My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves."
The actor said he used his art, which also depicted actor Al Pacino and folk legend Bob Dylan, to "reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire".
All 780 pieces sold within hours on Thursday, with framed individual images going for £3,950 and the complete portfolio of four images selling for £14,950.
Depp's post on Instagram, captioned only "NOW AT #CASTLEFINEART", prompted a rush of traffic to the gallery's website causing it to crash.

Wow he’s good. Glad you got some of his stuff.
He still will have to go some to beat Tony Curtis. Curtis’ estate was valued at one billion and most of that was not from his movies, but his own art.
That’s gonna be my guess too. I doubt he’s nailing the likenesses like that freehand — the proportions and stuff are too perfect. It can be done, but it’s unlikely he can do it, I think. If he actually is, then I’m impressed. Even he isn’t, I’m still pretty impressed.

This where the subjectiveness of art comes into play. I just looked at his paintings. To me, no way they are worth the price except for the fact they were painted by tony curtis

That’s his problem. He is talented and has no trouble making money. He has trouble not wasting and losing his money.
He has a lot of charisma. tortured soul.
In a way, I can understand Amber Heard video taping him. What do you do when married to someone like that if you want to show him how out of control he really is....
He could take this opportunity to clean up his act..but he likely wont. He is selling off his properties...some for significant losses.

Is it true he can’t read so has to have someone feed him his lines?
It would probably get him an A in a high school art class, but they are nothing special (except the artist’s name.)
There are paintings done by elephants that cost a pretty penny.
Maybe I could paint my cat’s tail and let him swish it around on paper to help pay his portion of the grocery bill.

Come on people. Give him credit. It takes a lot of discipline to put out that stuff on a sustained basis. Totally undisciplined in his other life aspects but that’s the nature of artists. They march to a different drummer. His work belongs in a museum, not in some millionaires living room where it gets moved shortly thereafter.
They used a device which transported an image of a scene onto the canvas (can’t remeber the name right now, camera obscura maybe?) Teresa were other devices too hat many artists used. Van Gogh used a “drawing aid” in some of his paintings to get perspective right as he struggled with drawing.
The use of drawing aids for art is pretty common- more so,now that folks have computers and photoshop to experiment with- they can even try out different co,or schemes of a scene before committing to canvas.
Agreed- Tony’s art is very amateurish looking in composition, color, tone, lighting, drawing etc. To me they jusy look like an amateur who wants to pain but doesn’t really know ehat they are doing. Kinda like Jim carey’s “art”
Nobody ever said a bad word about Winston Churchill, did they? No! “Win with Winnie!” Churchill! With his cigars. With his brandy. And his rotten painting, rotten! Hitler, there was a painter. He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon! Two coats!
Actually Hitler was a pretty fine artist. A scumbag through and through, but a fine artist.
