Elon Musk is right: Getting enough lithium is one of the biggest challenges facing electric-car companies
business insider via yahoo ^ | July 23, 2022 | Tim Levin

Elon Musk is pleading for more investment in lithium, the silvery-white metal that's crucial to making electric-car batteries. He recently complained about the metal's "insane" costs and said anyone who enters the refining business basically gets a "license to print money."

The billionaire has a point. As the auto industry shifts away from dirty fossil fuels and toward cleaner battery power, lithium is in the spotlight. Demand for the metal has skyrocketed in recent years, as has its price.

Questions still remain about whether the world will manage to mine, refine, and ship enough lithium to support the green revolution set to occur over the next decade and beyond. Here we've laid out the basics of why lithium is so important and what could happen next.

I thought one South American national had a large supply of Lithium. Possibly Peru.

As the auto industry shifts away from dirty fossil fuels and toward cleaner battery power, lithium is in the spotlight.

Battery power is only as clean as the fuel generating the charge.

$54 Where’ the guardrails?

The mine belongs to the Empire. They never use guardrails.

Yeah, I saw that Musk’s former consigliere JB Straubel quit Tesla and is running a recycling outfit in Nevada.

Two of my customers both have Tesla Model S Plaid.
They both own their businesses and are very wealthy.
I recently rode in one of them. The acceleration was impressive to say the least.
However, these automobiles cost over $125K.

These gentlemen also have Tahoes and full size 4WD pick up trucks.
So, if you are looking for something that is faster than a Porsche 911 they are a nice alternative. Again, what are they going to be worth when you have to replace the battery pack in seven years?

EVs are nice as a second or third car for rich people. They are not practical for the average commuter who can not afford a $50K automobile.

FYI, please stop being an A$$HOLE.

Unfortunately, the lithium will be used up to treat all of the maniacs ruling the country.

Thanks for the update. so I really forgot which NE state the largest lithium deposit in the US in. Still there will be issues getting out any of it due to state regulations. Something will have to give to be selfsufficient with out China controlled pricing.

"Elon Musk is right: Getting enough lithium is one of the biggest challenges facing electric-car companies"

Why do they feel compelled to carry the water for Musk? No one's ever questioned his intelligence (his integrity, OTOH, .......)

I don't care what he builds or sells but I don't like the fact that he's building them using money that came from MY POCKET! If electric cars are such a brilliant idea, why can't he build them WITHOUT gummint subsidies?

That’s a ZINC, LEAD, and SILVER mine.

And a lithium mine looks any different? Good catch by the way.

Around the time the final 'fat white boomer mouth breathing idiots' die off, you and yours might want to figure out how to build thatch and mud huts. That is, if you want shelter. Every generation behind US boomers has devolved. Most of you are dumber than stumps.
