Famous cyclist 26-year-old Victor Lafay retires from Tour De France Stage after a ‘mysterious’ sickness. The Frenchman of Cofidis, who was thought to be a possible contender for a stage victory, had difficulties finishing the thirteenth stage and arrived in the last position, after which he decided to quit the tour.
In front of Eurosport’s camera, Lafay said he could no longer keep up with the pack and was left alone. The interviewer asked him if he was sick. “Yes, I am sick. I’m not the only one in the pack. At the start, I spoke to Castro (Jonathan Castroviejo, ed.), and he told me he is not feeling well either...”

This story seriously lacks facts. I watched every day of the Tour de France, something that I have been doing for years. Retirements from the Tour were on the low end this year compared with other years. A number of cyclists were declared ineligible for a positive COVID test, something that continued until the final stage in Paris. I listened to a number of interviews of these competitors, most reported no symptoms. I never heard any report on vaccinations and I don’t know what was required by the rules. This year, the tour started in Denmark and later went to France, Switzerland, and Spain (limited). If this really happened, I think that the buzz within the cycling world would have been buzzing. Not happening.
If anyone has facts, rather than opinions or polemics, I hope that they come forward. Truth is still important.
A number of the riders withdrew from the Tour after testing positive for Covid. I’m assuming this guy wasn’t in that group because it doesn’t say he was.
You mean Michele Ferrari? The guy who could put stuff in a cyclist's tank to make them as fast as an Italian sports car?

Except these guys were even faster than Pharmstrong (on the key climbs) and nobody (outside the cabal) knows that it is that they're all on.

On the other hand, if a significant number of the peloton were having breathing problems, you'd think it would show up at the performance at the tail end of the field. However, the average speed maintained by the 2022 Lanterne Rouge was faster than either 2021's or 2020's LR.
2022 was 24.8 mph for 2081 miles.
2021 was 24.1 mph for 2122 miles.
2020 was 23.2 mph for 2165 miles.
There are a thousand different factors affecting the average speed of the race but if several of the riders were having breathing problems, it stands to reason it would have slowed them down, which means they would have faded to the back of the peloton and been in contention for the honors of Lanterne Rouge. I don't care how much he was wheel-sucking, I am hard pressed to believe a man having respiratory problems still could maintain near as makes no difference 25 mph for 83 and one-half hours.
Catroviejo ended up coming 49th in GC, well into the top half of the field. His average speed was 25-1/4th mph. Not bad for someone feeling sickly.
Lafay abandoned on the 13th stage, which was a rolling 116 miles with two Cat 3 climbs and one Cat 2.
And to say his performance on Cofidis has been less than spectacular is being kind. They've put him on the team in three Grand Tours (including the 2022 TdF), he DNF'd two and came 81st out of 142 in the third. He did manage a stage win in the 2021 Giro (his only win as a pro) but bollocksed that by abandoning the race in a later stage.
I suspect he was just waging a disinformation campaign to try to keep from being fired.

Armstrong's biggest problem was himself. He's just a jerk. The other team members might have kept their mouths shut if they had liked him a little more.
Still, those Tours were the most thrilling of all, especially those against Jan Ullrich. "The look" was a classic moment...
