I've had enough, I'm retiring. (Not contributing my hard earned tax dollars to this Biden bullsh** anymore.)

Good, life is short and should be enjoyed.

Now that he’s retired, my next door neighbor’s hobby is mowing his 1-1/2 acre lot on his riding mower 3 times a week starting in March until November. :-/

Correct. Why keep being a slave to the past. The past has destroyed the future with endless spending, debt, trade agreements, immigration, entitlements, etc.

I’m glad you have a retirement.

I’ll retire directly to my grave.

I cannot blame you. When I was preparing my home for sale to move from Maryland to Florida last year, there was a variety of improvements that I wanted to make. I was hoping to use my own cash to do them, but when Biden decided to go full-on for unlimited child sacrifice (abortion), I decided to up my 401(k) contributions to legally hide more of my money from taxes. Then I took out a HELOC for improvements.

I turn 66 next month. Still putting in 40 to 80 hour weeks to keep my customers happy. My weekends have been spent playing motorcycle mechanic to get my bikes back to road worthy condition. The Kawasaki Versys just needed a battery. The Harley Fat Bob took a fob battery, bike battery, fuel pump, fuel strainer, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, a new seal and 12 sealing screws. It fired up immediately. My wife's BV500 is next. I've done the battery, added fuel. Won't start. It's a 2007. There was a recall in 2009 that we didn't get for the fuel line between the pump and fuel filter. It's special fuel injection hose that must be fully submersible. $40 and a week from NAPA before I can continue. The bikes and ham radio equipment will be my transportation and entertainment in retirement. Fixing them while there is disposable income to do so.

Congrats on your decision. My wife just turned 64 and she's ready to hang up her spurs as a police/fire/EMS dispatcher. Just before Christmas there are two pregnant dispatchers that will go in maternity leave. That leaves 3 people to hold down 7x24 coverage until they return. Even if they had a new hire right now, it takes 15 weeks to train to proficiency.

It happens its an outlier.

What isn’t an outlier is that we are a “gibbedat nation.”

A nation of public and private sector ‘make work’ jobs that are unsustainable.

The essential commerce of our nation should reward capital and labor, but the nonessential labor and capital needs to evaporate like water during a heat wave.

Until that happens the speculative rot and inflationary policies will continue unabated by voters, politicians, bureaucrats, and the monopoly corporations.

$239K? I’m impressed as hell. You did a damn good job! You’ve earned this!

If after 38 years in IT at a global financial services company, if you've amassed at sizable 401(k) and/or pension benefit, you will still be paying ordinary income taxes on your before-tax withdrawals, albeit at a reduced amount.

With the lack of money I’ve saved up so far, I’ll probably be somewhat in harness until I die. I can hope that I can retire at age 70 and maybe work a part-time job. That will help keep me alive; these folks who retire and sit on their butts just die a few years later, anyhow.

Oh her ex is definitely a gimmedat kind. To this day. One of their kids is like that, too, especially with the lockdowns and all the freebies. Hasn’t worked a day since the lockdowns. The other two are good contributing members of society. I don’t guess we can fix those who don’t want to be fixed. Some love being irresponsible.

I love working. And what do you think you will be doing after you stop working? Paying taxes to Biden on your retirement and investment income. Your rant is amusing, but pointless.

>> I make $239k/year. They take a TON of taxes from me.

You can’t get that adjusted to the 24% tax bracket?

Are you paying for your health insurance out of pocket? Are you working from home? Have you considered consultancy instead of employment?

You’re young. Assuming the work isn’t killing you, consider getting some shrewd financial/tax advice before losing that stream.

I've had my Extra class for the last 22 years. 20 years as advanced before that. Last year I finally purchased a Yaesu FT991A. It's plenty of radio for what I want to do. For many years I ran a Yaesu FT221 and had it hooked up to the packet radio gear in San Diego. When I moved to Pocatello, the ham community was much smaller. Mostly 2m radios on the mountain tops. One has a 10m FM link. Very little "450" activity. Quite a few towers with HF antennas in town. No DMR on 2m/450. The odd thing is there are some digital emergency data networks. AREDN. Some of the locals have nodes built for AREDN ops. I have a SignalLink USB that is going to get wiring up for FT8 at some point. Lots of deferred ham activity awaiting in retirement.

After building up some DMR rigs (CS800D), I'm annoyed at being tethered to a very manual configuration process on my desktop PC that needs to be uploaded/downloaded to the radios. The Yaesu digital modes with C4FM are very easy to configure from the front panel "on the fly". I did buy the software to program the FT991A. Could not be easier. Go to an online database, select the area and bands you want. A big CSV spreadsheet is generated. Cut and paste into the radio config, upload. Voila!

It’s 63 I have more than enough to retire on. Divorced had to write the ex-wife a lump sum check at age 60. But I am OK.

I’ve been in a family business since age 15. My father went to work till age 90 5 days a week and then had a stroke. Fortunately he survived until 95 1/2.

I don’t want to be my father at age 90 still working. I’m in a fourth generation family business and feel like I’m working for three constituencies. 1. My customers, 2. My employee, 3. The government/IRS.
If there is something left over then I get it. Frankly I’m just tired and trying to decide do I sell the business, do I shut it down and liquidate it.
Personally I don’t want my kids to carry it on because it no longer is fun and not profitable like it was until 2008.

We struggle every day to find employees, it’s a difficult task because nobody wants to grow up to being over the road truck driver or to be doing physical manual labor which is a requirement of the industry.
Fortunately this business which is been around since 1908 has provided a good living for my family for generations. Now I just have to make sure that I invest in a way that my kids and their grandkids will never have a problem.
