I've had enough, I'm retiring. (Not contributing my hard earned tax dollars to this Biden bullsh** anymore.)

I wish I could go Galt as well. Nicely done.

I used to be stationed at Patrick AFB. There were tons of retired military personnel around. They would go into the Class 6 (booze store) and get handle after handle of booze. Just baking in the Sun and getting drunk everyday.
It’s like they lost purpose after 20+ years of essentially being institutionalized.
It was sad.

I’ve had an RV since before I retired but I use it to travel around going to benchrest shoots. The competition has become an obsession and is what occupies all of my time. Recently bought a lathe so I can chamber my own barrels and buying bullet making dies and presses in about a month. Heading to IBS Group Nationals in a couple of weeks, 2 shoots in GA in September then NBRSA Nationals in St Louis in October. Trying to make Team USA for the World Benchrest Championship which will be next year in France. Staying busy is not a problem!

I’ll be living off of savings. Zero income = ZERO TAXES.

Well, passive income from investments & capital gains is still income. You can minimize it, but you can’t eliminate it. And taxes is taxes, whether its coming from your salary or not.

Don’t get me wrong — I am very happy for you. I too am able to retire, but will probably work from 3-8 more years. The my reason is that don’t want to because I don’t relish being idle. For me, it is not about how much the Government does or does not get. The Government will always find a way to put its hand in your wallet. It’s about my desires and well being.

Best of luck!

It’s good to escape from being an income tax slave having to spend ~30% of your time at work in financial slavery to the US government.

It’s good to escape from being an income tax slave having to spend ~30% of your time at work in financial slavery to the US government so people who don't want to work don't have to and illegal aliens are taken care of and provided benefits. Fixed it for you.

I agree but disagree. There are plenty of conservative outfits that would pay you for your skills, and possibly very handsomely, and you’d be working against the kind of government you say is the whole reason for your retirement.

If I were in your shoes, I would not cave in to what Biden is capable of, I would be working in support of those who are like you and disagreeing with Biden.

I am retired—tired of being a sucker who pulled the wagon.

Now I am riding on it.

“...nobody wants to grow up to being over the road truck driver or to be doing physical manual labor which is a requirement of the industry.”

I’m gonna break radio silence for a request and word of advice here.

Give it one more year please. IMO we have started a 40 year bear market similar to Japan 1980s. Similar reasons and trajectory. The FED is going to protect the dollar’s reserve currency status at all costs. Everything else will be forfeited.

Taxes will go up and currency will continue to devalue but slower to other currencies.

Trucking is supply side economics which can pass on costs to customers. It’s a gem. Those who have money will always consume and they will need products brought to them.

Some of the best, most enduring companies got started in the Great Depression, example Publix. Competitors got wiped out as in a forest fire. Those who focused down on the business model and developed most efficient lines of effort came to dominate their industry from meager beginnings. Most of the companies that got their start in the Depression were supply side.

Although you want to quit you may also be on the cusp of developing your company into a corporation which dominates the industry for generations to come. Never underestimate the myopic stupidity and inefficiencies of your larger corporate competitors. Many are dinosaurs currently with a great bright object in the sky above them.

That is exactly what I’m going to do. I’ve worked my ass off since I was 14 years old living in iowa. I’ve had a whopping 2 weeks where I collected unemployment insurance in my entire lifetime. It’s about f****** time somebody paid for me. I’m not pulling the wagon anymore I’m going to ride in it.

I’m bowing out this November, two days after I turn 62. Of course I still have my husband’s biz to run and the rental properties. A health scare and an MVA in early 2021 clinched the decision. Hubby is 8 yrs younger than me so he has a ways to go.
