The Sixth Street Viaduct will be closed tonight for a third night in a row -- for what the Los Angeles Police Department characterized as “illegal activity.”
“Unfortunately, we've entered another evening where the 6th St Viaduct had to be closed due to illegal activity,'' the department's Central Area Division tweeted late Saturday. “The day began with community residents holding signs in the middle of the bridge to “RESPECT THE BRIDGE.” Let's listen!''
The $588 million bridge, which opened to the public on July 10, was also closed overnight Saturday due to a traffic collision involving a pickup parked in a no-parking zone that was struck by another vehicle.
Police made several arrests after street takeovers and other unruly behavior temporarily shut down the bridge Friday night. Police Chief Michel Moore said that in two cases, people were pointing green lasers at police officers.
“After a 2-hour closure, the bridge was opened”, the central division tweeted late Friday. "In less than an hour, 200 people arrived for a street takeover, fireworks and vandalism. Maximum enforcement will continue over the weekend.
On Saturday, Moore tweeted one word: “Unacceptable.”
Some have characterized the bridge mishaps as made-for-social media or Instagrammable escapades designed to gain attention and entertain followers.
“I need to take advantage of the 6th Street bridge to get famous soon,” Don Julian tweeted Saturday. ''My window of opportunity is closing''
But police said these social media stunts can also encourage people to break the law.
Other observers have said the bridge activity is tied to a need for more open space east of downtown Los Angeles, with some suggesting it should be closed to vehicle traffic on weekends.

RATS call this 'democracy'.
But a car ran the roadblocks. IIRC the woman's family sued (tried to sue, is suing?) the police for not maintaining a safe area.
I imagine one dead or seriously injured person would get this bridge open again.
Lawlessness will abound.

Oh yes. Fame.
Like people who take selfies on the edge of a cliff or bridge.
And then some of them pay a very high price for their attention-seeking activity.
Is it one of those racist bridges that Mayor Pete has talked about?
When in reality, soft on crime democrat policies are what encourages people to break the law.
If people want to jump off a bridge they deserve a Darwin award and be done with it.
I thought that dip shiite thinks ALL Bridges and highways are racist. What a piece of 💩
Good catch. Liberals are fond of blaming inanimate objects for crimes (guns, a media site, etc.). They never blame their own stupid polices. And of course they never blame the actual criminals.
Sure is an ugly monstrosity with no symmetry whatsoever. Those massive concrete protective collars over the cables look fugly.
Anarcho-tyranny.
More political violence from the democrat party.
Surely these people were peacefully protesting and not trying to blind the LEO's!
Just an impromptu light show to go along with the fireworks.

IMO, just cordon off the violent areas of the cities and nobody gets in or out.
Maybe do an airdrop of food once in a while. After a month, open it up and see who or what is left and then do clean up on them. The survivors will most likely deserve jail time anyways. Lock them up and throw away the keys.
Where’s an AC-130 when you need one?
They were having a dance party in the middle of I5 when a guy in a Jag took 2 of them out. They immediately start screaming they are under attack by white supremacists. Turns out the driver was black, but the car was white, so there was that.
My response - BANG
