TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) â It was described as chaos in the air Wednesday as an American Airlines flight from Tampa to Nashville was diverted after experiencing severe turbulence.
The plane made an emergency landing in Birmingham, Alabama. Eight people on board suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Temple Terrace native Travis Hamilton (snip) was in the airplane bathroom when, about an hour into the flight, it felt like he was on a roller coaster.
âBefore I could finish washing my hands, I was on the roof of the bathroom,â Hamilton said. âUp and down. 10 seconds.â
Hamilton said when it stopped, all he could see was blood.
âI looked in the mirror and it was kind of running down my face,â Hamilton said.
He had to kick his way out the bathroom. He described what he saw next as chaos in the cabin.
âOxygen masks were down,â Hamilton said. âBabies were screaming. Everybodyâs kind of like, what just happened?â
Hamilton then realized, he wasnât the only one who was hurt.
âThe one stewardess, man, she was messed up,â Hamilton said. âThereâs blood just all over her face and the other one couldnât hardly turn her head or neck or anything.â
(snip)
When the plane landed, Hamilton got checked out by fire rescue. He had a small cut on his head and kept it moving. Hamilton said that all he got in return for his rough ride was a $12 meal voucher and AAdvantage miles, which wasnât good enough.
While he ended up getting to his destination in Nashville, Hamilton believes the airline should be punished.
âThe fact they gave less than a minute warning to put on our seat belt, they need to be held accountable for it,â Hamilton said.

Crybaby.
You are flying through the air , there is weather .
Grow a pair
It is an airplane. It’s flying around in the air. Hello!
Microburst?
Clear air turbulence. You can’t see it. You think it’s fun in a 737, try it in a hang glider - it’s called “kicking the keel” cause that’s where your feet end up when the wing tries to smack you on the head suddenly.
Clear air turbulence (assuming). Ok...passengers should be generously compensated....but who’s the guy gonna sue...God?
Wait a minute here. Florida man didn’t do anything weird this time?
Florida Man just brings chaos wherever he goes.

I was in a military transport over some undisclosed location awakes by a gruff crew chief shoving an oxygen mask over my face. I was passed out. Along with everyone else
Once I was riding along in an airbus in summer to Houston’s. Big taller than us white clouds all around. The airplane started rocking. I knew it wasn’t turbulence. Passed right past Houston landed in San Antonio.
I soon after updated my will.
Anything can happen on a plane. Even stalling out - temporarily or not.
Once I was riding along the pilot flew us into a storm (no idea why) over central Florida we were at 45 degrees heading down. Then up. The flight attendants were freaking out calling out

You never wan to see flight attendants freaking. They know that. They save it for emergencies
Hey, if an aircraft carrier can lose an F/A-18 Super Hornet off from its deck due to “unexpected” weather then certainly an aircraft flying 500+ mph through the air can encounter acts of God type situations.
Dude needs to realize that turbulence can happen. … unexpectedly and without warning… it appears that he qualifies for 100,000 FREAKING FLYER points for his unexpected injury.
I think he is just working for a higher payoff! Clear Air Turbulence is invisible, radar included.
Punish the airline? Really? For a natural phenomenon — an act of God?
I didn’t notice his age, but probably when he told Mommy about it, Mommy said the airline should be punished. As if they planned to wreak havoc on a plane full of passengers.
Not in mid-air, this is almost certainly what is called "Clear Air Turbulence" (CAT) and is almost impossible to see. The best warning system for localized CAT is by other pilots reporting it. There are some forms of CAT found where a powerful wind is creating eddies on the fringes that can spiral down for some distance.
This is why no pilot wishing to grow old gets anywhere near a thunderstorm as it generates strong winds. I have been stuck at an airport for 6 hours when a gust front slowed down and just sat. Better on the ground than to have the playful winds disassembling your puny aircraft!
FYI: a Microburst is a ground-effect condition where the aircraft lift is adversely affected by a sudden wind at too low an airspeed to escape a stall. Like hitting a pothole and you hope the angels are on your side!
Co-pilot: “Hey, what’s that mountain goat doing way up here in a cloud bank?”
The Airline CANNOT CONTROL THE WEATHER!!!!!!
How does he think they should be ‘punished’??? And why?? because they hurt his feelings? How about a trophy?
If the airline could SEE all the turbulence in advance they would not fly through it.
Larsen...hahahahahahhaaa
