The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 5.5 quake in Myanmar (Burma) near Keng Tung, Kengtung District, Shan State, only 14 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Thursday, July 21st, 2022, at 11:07 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.5 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.6. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Keng Tung (pop. 171,600) located 62 km from the epicenter, Tachilek (pop. 51,600) 70 km away, and Mae Sai (pop. 27,500) 72 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.

Notice how quickly they adapted? They already have a work around for walking and bikes. Not even any Road closed signs or barricades. No one telling them it is too dangerous for them to use the road. Contrast that to what would happen in the US.
I was also wondering from the title at what point does an earth quake go from being weak to being strong? Is there any such thing as a weak 5.9 quake.
These pictures are from an earthquake in 2011.
5.9 on Guam would not be be big.
But it might tip the island over.
Ring of Fire is heating up.
