An anonymous teacher has written an article describing in shocking detail some of the madness that has infected public education.
At Wesley Yang’s Year Zero substack site, a left-leaning public teacher in a leftist school district published an article describing just how crazy things really are in such schools. While your children may be behind in reading, writing, and arithmetic, it’s clear they’re getting an extra-large dose of hard-left racism (and probably gender theory and America hatred, although the essay doesn’t touch on those things). If you have children or grandchildren in public schools, or you simply care about America’s future, you should read that essay and then pay close attention to your next school board election.
The essay, entitled Yes, Things Are Really As Bad As You've Heard, sounds like one of the more outlandish Babylon Bee parodies. However, Yang vouches for the essay, saying that he’s spoken with the author and reviewed correspondence that confirms the statements and events that the teacher describes.
The teacher identifies himself (or herself?) very clearly as a leftist:
This is where I have to stop and make one thing very clear: I’m a leftist. Like, a big one. I hate capitalism, I support abortion on demand, and I unironically use phrases like “systems of oppression” and “the dominant culture.” The last big paper I put together for my undergraduate degree was on critical race theory, for the love of God! I’m not the sort of person who can be easily dismissed as a conservative crank.
This identification matters because his point is that, if things have gotten too extreme for him, the education system in this blue school in a blue state has tilted so far to the left that it is no longer anything approaching a functional educational entity.

“When we moved to discuss the gap in enrollment between Black and white students, a senior teacher said that trying to register more children of color for AP classes is inherently racist and that putting greater value on AP classes at all is an expression of white supremacy.”
“Public education is as bad as, if not worse than, you’ve heard”
Why should that bother me? As long as I pay taxes for the schools, I’m sending my kids there, and they can deal with the life-long consequences of me trying to get my money’s worth.
Just not worth the step-down in lifestyle for me, to keep my kids out of those schools. I deserve the boat, and the F150 to pull the boat, and large house to have a place to park the boat and the F150.
The results of the decades long continued pursuit of diversity, inclusion (which is actually exclusion), and equality. The Leftist progressive (which really is regressive) folks should be utterly proud...and most are!
I was the victim of numerous efforts to “improve” education away from reading, writing and arithmetic. By the time I’d entered college the only reason I could function was because of things I’d done on my own. I was subjected to “New Math” which involved...wait for it...intuiting the answers rather than memorizing things. Then there was “Sight Reading” rather than sounding words out. Had it not been for the fact I’d discovered reading on my own, I’d probably be limited to road signs. (Not the long boring ones giving directions.)
Looking back, we had all these new education graduates who wanted to prove they were better than the WWII vets who were teaching us when I started. Those people were not, by and large, college educated. They were wonderful. They just did what they’d been taught.
Having had a conservative friend go through the education courses, I’d never even have an Ed major even work for me, let alone leave them unsupervised with a child.
They are beyond trying; they just expect material wealth in exchange for being born.
Here in NJ it is easy to blame unequal outcomes on bad individual schools, as they are so segregated (in terms of blacks) that you can’t get any comparison within any specific school. Whites are usually in school with Asians and increasingly, Hispanics; they don’t live in black areas and there are few if any truly “mixed” areas. The non-black schools still have advanced classes, and the black areas call standard classes “advanced” or “gifted” while the majority of students are written off - no effort is made to teach them at all, and only threatening the mothers’ public assistance even gets them to show up.
America is truly in danger.
Some of the things they tell me that they are being taught are horrify honest people.
Honest, intelligent, benevolent people should be alarmed!
Then there’s that whole group IQ thing, with a full standard deviation difference.
I homeschooled some kids. Do it if you can.
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink
You can send a kid to school but you can’t make him think
BTTT!
The future of our for republic cannot stand an ignorant, racist, queer tainted future. The purpose of schools is to develop children into educated adults. To give them the tools of reading, writing, math, and in some cases AP for college. What is coming out of all levels of education is indoctrinated idiots. These kids will become our future leaders in 10 years.
God help us.
That’s the truth; a real problem arises when those unlearned students are given the same pieces of paper (in name) as the real students - and companies end up in trouble when a real worker is paid more than a token with the same papers.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

“Dumbing Us Down”
By John Taylor Gatto, 1993 Teacher of the year amongst other awards. He was also a principle for years in NYC and really pull the lid of public education.
Most of the parents I know who claim to be conservative and are connected with public education so the following:
1) Too much pride to admit that, yes, THEIR school is actually terrible simply for the fact that it is a public school.
2) No attempt to curtail lifestyles to accommodate a different education for their children. The two
Parent family where the answer is “I have to work,” but in many cases the fact is they don’t want to think outside the box or make adjustments in their lifestyle.
3) They are either working for the public school system as “educators” (ie attempt to control classrooms and information), or have their kids so ingrained in the system and that their volunteer efforts are enough to overcome any “negative” features of public education.
”For the love of God!?!?!”
He supports everything in opposition to right and good and godliness and then appeals to God????
Talk about taking God’s name in vain.
I would NOT want to be in his shoes come Judgment Day.
We know that. People should be going to prison for what is going on in our publik skools.

And few are as dumb as your average teacher these days.
