A day after the mother of two young Black girls called out Sesame Place in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, for an incident over the weekend in which a character at the theme park appeared to deny and pass by her girls, an attorney for the family said the event has had a devastating effect on them.
"Their hearts were completely shattered by a character," attorney B'Ivory LaMarr told NBC10 in an interview Tuesday. "And tickets are not cheap. This is something these young girls were looking forward to. Words can't describe the type of grief they are going through right now."
In the now viral video posted Saturday on the mother’s Instagram account, two young girls are seen excitedly reaching out to the character Rosita, the first bilingual muppet on Sesame Street. Although it appears that the performer had interacted with other children before reaching the girls, the video seems to show the character shaking their head “no” in the direction of the two young Black girls.
“We were on our way out of sesame place and the kids wanted to stop to see the characters,” the mom wrote on Instagram. “THIS DISGUSTING person blatantly told our kids NO then proceeded to hug the little white girl next to us!”
In response, Sesame Place Philadelphia said in a statement on Instagram Sunday that it the performer did not direct the "no" hand gesture, which was used more than once in the video, toward “any specific person,” but was instead gesturing that way in “response to multiple requests from someone in the crowd who asked Rosita to hold their child for a photo which is not permitted.”

Kind of a crappy thing to do, but the character waved off someone in front of the girls, but behind them a bit. That wave could’ve meant a whole lot of things. The girls were obviously upset, but that was a darned good teaching moment for mom. You don’t always get what you want... She blew it. Now we’ll have two more folks in the world who believe they are victims.
This was at the END of the day?
At least “B’Ivory” (major ironic LOL) got her money’s worth, which as she said is “not cheap”.

I saw that tape and here is what I think.
The costumed character was just tapping the hand of several people, as he/she walked along, when two little girls extended their arms as a child who wants to be PICKED UP does.
The character indicated with the hand that it wasn’t possible to pick the child up.
If others saw it differently can’t be helped.
That’s the way I saw it.
The “mother” could have simply pulled out a gun and shot the Rosita muppet in the back. That’s the way it’s done in Chicago when an Obama feels aggrieved.

My children were overlooked many times in many situations. As a parent, you might get angry, and you might complain. But, you don’t run to a lawyer or the news media.
One of my kids was picked on by a coach in little league. He was yelled at in front of everyone. Then I had my own little yelling match with said coach. Then we found another team.
But, these little girls are “traumatized” because a Muppet passed them by? Nah. Only if the grownups around them are making sure they feel traumatized.
We went to Disney World for our 25th anniversary. We had big buttons that declared our anniversary and the characters often congratulated us....except for Snow White, who asked me if I bought her flowers - when I said no she flounced off in a huff. Shoulda sued her skinny butt.

It seems clear that is exactly what happened - but that won’t matter. They needed a “black victim” story for the day, and this was the closest they got.
