I’m glad that my DARK SIDE OF THE MOON “moment” happened eons ago, with zero knowledge of the band itself. I bought a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs LP from an audiophile shop in Ft. Worth and just played the thing. I was enamored with Alan Parsons engineering as much as anything else. One can’t get magical sound like that without a great engineer.
I don’t know who Drake is but Pink Floyd has always sucked.
Roger Waters is not Pink Floyd. Under David Gilmour, Pink Floyd lacks the biting, Leftist, nihilist edge that dominated albums like Animals and The Final Cut and made The Wall just plain wierd. But frankly, unlike the left-wing, commie-faggot critcis, that’s not what I like about Pink Floyd. And I don’t actually think it’s the fans. There’s a reason why A Momentary Lapse of Reason outsold Animals and sold several times more than The Final Cut.
But while nothing lives up to Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here, frankly, the newer stuff got dismissed too easily. (The Endless River is old-guy music, but hey, Pink Floyd is old.)
Surprisingly, the biggest failure of Gilmour’s Floyd, I think, is what you might think was the easiest: the melodies. For all the brilliant soundcrafting and guitar solos, the songs are too often phrased as one line of lyric at a time, repeating with slight variation the same musical lines.
Since when are musicians “important”?

He’s 100% right. He has his issues, but he’s right in this.
In short, take away Paul and David, the Beatles and Pink Floyd respectively aren't as great.
