This makes it next to impossible to make, say, a WWII film, unless you drop in a handful of totally unbelievable minority roles.

No point in doing a WWII movie unless it's Tuskegee Airmen

the problem with so much focus on wokeism, is that show runners tend to forget about story, dialog, acting and character development, apparently believing that lots of wokeism is sufficiently entertaining by itself ... i automatically avoid shows where the show runners loudly proclaim how woke their show is ...

I think they want to make sure that everyone is repesented so they're not focused on making the program entertaining. A show that is based on Medieval Europe? They want to make sure that Black actors get their roles. So they ignore everything that happens in a story that makes it good.

Funny you don't see them trying to create acting roles for Indian (the ones with the red dot) actors.

what, no Asians?

On the other hand, anyone who watches those historical Korean drama series knows that they are as gory as GoT.

but being K Dramas, most of them sort of have happy endings, and unlike GoT, usually have a couple of sympathetic characters in them.

“We wanted to find a way to put diversity in the show, but we didn’t want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism.”

The every fact that they felt compelled to is proof of tokenism.

I’m waiting for the new Martin Luther King, Jr. sitcom set in the ‘60s starring Fred Savage as our favorite, wacky lady-loving civil rights icon.

Fred Savage/MLK:"Whatchoo talkin' bout, James Earl Ray?"

Corey Feldman/Jesse Jackson:"Thass my homey!" (cue audience laugh track)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've got your cultural appropriation right here:

Black Wild Annie

But Denzel gets a pass on "The Equalizer" for being excellent.

“ a show that was not another bunch of white people on the screen,”

Then I guess they won’t be disappointed if a bunch of white people don’t watch it.

No one is going to watch it. I'm sure a lot of people will check out the first episode. After that, it'll tank.

It's a medieval fantasy show. So it's quite graphic and vulgar. This prequel is going to be P.C. so it will lose all that magic GOT had.

That “Annie” was an absolute train wreck. Plus, insisting that the parents’ choice of first name for the lead actress not be changed didn’t help her career. Nobody could pronounce it or remember it. Back in the older and saner days, when an actor or actress would be promoted, if the name was unpronounceable or ridiculous, it would be changed.

Valyrians (like the Velaryon family) aren’t native to Westeros either of course. Based on Valyria’s geography the author could have easily chose to make them black but he made them platinum haired whites. It should serve to highlight the bastardy of Rhaenyra’s children when they don’t look black at all.

Doesn’t make too much sense for the Sea Snake to be so dark skinned though unless there are a lot of other blacks to interbreed with, the Velaryons mixed with the Targs a lot. Even if you say they were black originally, they shouldn’t look black many many generations later.

There were a few minor black characters (Summer Islanders) in Westeros, all were cut from “Game of Thrones), instead they made a couple random minor characters black, the pirate guy (that worked) and the asshole from Qarth.

They’ve also made Prince Daemon’s foreign GF Asian looking. And Ser Criston Cole is played by a guy who’s part Indian, so I guess they are making him part Dornish even though he’s not in the source material.

Watching the new Vikings spinoff, they made a Jarl character part black AND a woman (the historical version was of course a Norwegian man), with the explanation that her dad, the previous Jarl, brought back and married an African woman.

Whatever, they are gonna find ways to cast non-whites in things were non-whites shouldn’t have existed. I have a bigger problem with the fact that the woman they cast as Rhaenyra, who should be hot (and then get kinda fat but we don’t need that level of accuracy) is a plain looking “non-binary” and her younger version is a really weird looking chick.

YES.

Makes the slaves white and the masters black. Like Patrick Stewart’s “Othello”.

Today I just saw the new movie, “Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris,” set in 1950s London and Paris, about a British maid who sets off to buy a fancy dress.

I’m supposed to believe about half of her London friends and half of the models at House of Dior back then were black. Okaaay…

I liked Clarkson’s Farm and the Jack Reacher series. Also the Bosch seasons.

Of course! If you don’t, you’re a racist!

What this says is the visual part is no longer important to create the mental world of the play\movie. It might as well be a radio production.
