Last week I had over two dozen green plum tomatoes blasting
away on the plants.

Thursday morning I went out - and they were all GONE.
I found one half-eaten tomato on the lawn - and I could
tell by the teeth marks that it was damn chipmunks.

I've had chipmunks eat my red ripe or almost ripe tomatoes before -
but them eating the green ones is a first for me.

Chipmunks are SO DARN cute that I DO NOT want to kill and
obliterate them ALL. I merely want to 'thin the herd'.
I am fine with them eating SOME of my tomatoes - but NOT ALL of them.

So I am taking decisive defensive action.
Fear not - I will be as humane as possible.

Perhaps put out some water for them? They might just be thirsty.

If that does not work then buy them some wrapped fleer double bubble gum (not the round ones) and put it where they find it. Can’t digest it and it will slow them up for the hawks who you do not want to poison. ( If you find empty wrappers then they found it. )

Good luck!

I just put netting over my plants...that I could easily lift off to harvest a few tomatoes.

Many years ago, when we were still living in the mts. of western PA, I went out one morning to start picking my tomatoes to can. As I got closer, I was shocked to see that my entire patch, about 40 plants was - gone! On closer inspection, the wood stakes were laying around haphazardly, either pulled from the ground or broken off at ground level and about an inch of stalk left. The vines and all- GONE! The rest of the garden was untouched.???

In talking with the neighbors,we figured out we had a bear with selective taste. He got my tomatoes, another’s bean patch and another’s sweet corn. LOL!
