(CNN) House Republicans are plotting revenge on the select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection, as the GOP weighs a broader effort to re-litigate some of Donald Trump's biggest election grievances if it recaptures the House majority.
The former President has been itching for payback and leaning heavily on his Capitol Hill allies to defend him against a recent slew of damaging revelations about his role in the deadly attack on the US Capitol. Now, as Republicans search for ways to undermine those findings, their party has started to lay the groundwork to investigate the select committee itself.
Republicans have already asked the January 6 panel to preserve a broad range of documents in its possession -- a signal they're preparing to force those records to be turned over should they wield powerful committee gavels next year. And privately, Republican sources say there have been discussions about subpoenaing members of the select committee, particularly Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who is fighting an uphill battle for reelection, and retiring Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, if both Republicans are private citizens next year.
It's an idea that has garnered support among allies of the former President. But House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy -- who has refused to comply with a subpoena from the select committee and has long held that the panel lacks the authority to haul in private citizens -- is cool to the idea, according to a Republican source familiar with his thinking.
Other investigative ideas under consideration among House Republicans include establishing their own select committee -- or repurposing the current one -- to investigate matters such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi's role in Capitol security enforcement on January 6, 2021; the intelligence and security failures surrounding that day; and the treatment of the rioters...

Sessions gamely gave in to the Dem demands that he recuse himself from all matters involving the Russia lie and basically let the radicals at DOJ and on the Mueller team run wild. Since when did Eric Holder or Merrick Garland recuse themselves from anything?? I’m not optimistic about the Rs based on their past conduct when in 2017 they held all three branches of government. Was NPR defunded? Was wokeness reined in at the military or government agencies, much less our schools receiving federal funds? No, the only real positives from the GOP Congress were tax cuts (benefit the donors) and preventing the odious Mr. Garland from getting on the Supreme Court.

There is a lot more to investigate about a committee member banging a Chinese spy (just to name one example) than a protest that got out of hand for a few hours and made Nancy Pelosi feel uncomfortable.

The Recusal word hasn’t been uttered since Trump left - not once.
And Sessions didn’t recuse himself from investigating the Coup and Surveillance - he only recused from Investigating Trump.

It was not just any Congressional committee. He is on the Intel committee.

So, why did the Republican House and Senate do nothing?
The Republicans promised to Subpoena and get to the bottom of it, and did nothing. Why believe them now?

But it was President Trump who made the mistake of appointing Sessions in the first place. You can't blame the Republican Senate for that.
Of course GOP Senators were going to back Sessions who'd been their colleague in the Senate for a long time. Nothing new there.
But Trump should have sacked Sessions long before he finally did, “threats” from Senate or not.
Senate can't impeach anybody without the House which Republicans controlled.

Can you imagine the Dems trying to come up with Legislation to Protect a Prosecutor appointed to Investigate Hillary, Obama, or Biden?
You can’t even get a Special Prosecutor for a Democrat.
