Was working at a bank at the time. The Prime Rate was above 18% for months and topped at 21%!

I think this inflation is way worse.

Here's a goodie:

You could almost buy a new car for that price - 1988's era.

It was hard to find work as a young kid at that time. I remember I worked in a warehouse, short order cook and house painter.

I remember labor unions complaining about all the electronics coming in from Japan. Those items worked for years and years. Can’t say that about Made in China crap.

Debbie Harry was Blondie. Randy VanWarmer sang
You Left Me Just When I Needed You Most. The BeeGees were at the top of their game. Greyhound buses drove around with a big sign on the back, depicting Jimmy Carter in a sweater saying "Thanks for taking the bus and saving energy." The movie
The Blues Brothers came out and was a big hit. Donald Trump offered to fix the Wollman Skating Rink at his own expense; it had been a Central Park eyesore for as long as I had been going to NYC as a kid. David Berkowitz did the Son of Sam murders, along with (now it appears likely) several other people, most of whom later died violent deaths themselves.
All in all a pretty bleak, miserable time. My early 20s. Little fun, lots of pain, much of it self-inflicted, if I'm honest.

I was 23 and remember every bit of what was listed. I was morning radio DJ travelling all over the east coast. Dated a couple of super hotties...Renee and Kerry. Those were GREAT days for me!
