There has been a lot of talk for the past year and a half about who the Republican Party should nominate for 2024: Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis. I explain in this video why Donald Trump is still the guy for 2024.
Something old:

Something new:
“DeSantis has repeatedly said he is focusing on his job as governor and that he’s not actively planning a run for the White House in 2024.”

Too many haven’t caught on to the fact it’s NeverTrumpers, RINOs, DEMOCRATS and leftmedia that’re continuing to boost the “DeSantis 2024” rumor mill.
Why, oh why, would these people all gang up together to chant the same narrative: that DeSantis runs in 2024??
Consistent with his commentary from way last September emphasizing his desire to focus on Florida, DeSantis is running to be re-elected as Governor this November, and looks to be the shoo-in winner there.
He’s well-positioned to take a shot at the White House in 2024, but ONLY IF Trump decides NOT to run; otherwise it’s Trump over DeSantis — possibly in a double digit lambasting that would be damaging to DeSantis both near- and long-term. He’s up-and-coming, for sure, but DeSantis is NOT an idiot; he’s just NOT going to go head-to-head with Trump anyplace other than some rabid leftist’s or National Review writer’s wet dream.
So, stop the beating; DeSantis 2024 is a dead horse.
Final??? Really???
It's 2022. DeSantis is running for Governor and Trump is running his mouth. Let's see what the world looks like in 18 months or so.
I’m pretty certain you’ve got this one exactly right.
Florida has shifted markedly Red during DeSantis’ stint as Governor; they like the moves he’s been making, and it’s to his VAST advantage to do what he claimed he’s going to, get re-elected, and mature his gains in making Florida a model State for Constitutional Conservative policies.
Unless (and perhaps even if) something completely unforeseen happens that keeps Trump’s hat outta the ring, there is NO prospect for a DeSantis 2024 Presidential run.
[The idea that Trump voters would stay home if DeSantis is the nominee, when DeSantis is right on every single conservative issue, is really disturbing if true.
Exactly what would that gain them, or the country? ]
Maybe DeSantis runs just to improve his name recognition in preparation for 2028. Why not just spend the whole campaign talking about why he’s running without attacking Trump? The risk is that he loses by winning the nomination.
Me too...
DeSantis is the only non-Trump candidate I would consider voting for. If it’s someone like Liz Cheney, I’m voting for the Rat.
You know all this in fighting among the base as to who will be the candidate no body is asking the question will there be a country left to run in 2024. This country has fallen over the cliff and all that’s waiting is for it to go splat. You would think that for the sake of our country survival Ron DeSantis would agree to run with Trump as a VP. This would be an absolutely awesome ticket. We’re dying out here ....please Mr. Trump and DeSantis put the nation first and run in one ticket as a team. We need you we desperately REALLY need you .....HELP!
Agreed. I remember seeing something about DeSantis positioning himself so he could make a 2024 run if he decided to. People were reading too much into that. I thought it was just a sensible thing to do, especially for anything time-sensitive. Let’s face it - Trump may decide not to run for various reasons....or, God forbid, he could get sick or even pass. Seems to me that it doesn’t hurt for DeSantis to have all of his ducks in a row just in case something unexpected happens. This is what smart people do. I also think DeSantis has too much class to pull a move like that on President Trump. He was helped a LOT by The Donald, and he doesn’t come across as the backstabbing opportunist that describes most politicians. I think both Trump and DeSantis are leaders, not politicians.

Those articles both say the same thing - that DeSantis is not "currently" or "actively" considering running in 2024. Neither of them says that DeSantis won't run if Trump does.
First, given that he's running for governor, a public statement that he was considering running for president would be used by his opponent against him. So, he says what every single other politician in his situation has said. They say they're not "currently" considering it, but they don't rule it out.
Second, neither question was in the context of Trump running - they were much broader questions about whether he would run it all. So, if you are going to interpret his answer as ruling out running in 2024, that would apply regardless of whether Trump was running or not. It's not like he said "I will run in 2024, but not if Trump does."
TRUMP 2024
DESANTIS 2028/2032.
Florida needs DeSantis and DeSantis needs to grow.
“So, he says what every single other politician in his situation has said. They ... don’t rule it out.”
My central point is there’s all these anti-Trump voices trying to play the old “Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more” game with this, and claim that DeSantis NOT saying he ISN’T running is nothing other than innuendo that he certainly IS running. That’s a ludicrous and stupid linguistics game that stuffs unspoken words into DeSantis’ mouth in what’s nothing so much as a transparent effort to imply the lie that Trump is being shelved. That conclusion is clearly true given the uniformly anti-Trump stance of all the over-loud voices that are pumping the myth.
“...neither question was in the context of Trump running - they were much broader questions about whether he would run it all.”
So his “not actively considering” running is the only sane posture in a political environment where anything could happen, up to and including Trump NOT running, and the bottom falling out of the GOP leaving the party with no prominent Candidate heading into the Primaries. PERHAPS if such an electoral disaster emerged, DeSantis would step in to fill the void, but my read on this is that he’s REALLY NOT interested in a bid for White House this go-’round, and the SOLE reason he’s not saying so DEFINITIVELY lies in the reality that TONS could change in unpredictable ways, and he’s not totally opposed to stepping in “to save the day,” as it were, but otherwise — no.
I will vote for either, but I agree with others that Desantis needs to be in Florida as long as he can. Then move up after Trump finishes his term.
Actually, I agree with that. You can't take what DeSantis has said as proof that he is running. But on the other hand, there are a whole lot of folks who show up in these threads claiming "DeSantis said he's not going to run if Trump does", and that's simply untrue.
Right now, whether DeSantis runs against Trump for the nomination is uncertain. And that's the most that can fairly be said either way.
My personal guess is that not even DeSantis has made a decision one way or the other. It may depend on how Trump is doing heading into the 2023 campaign season, or it's possible he already has decided and just hasn't told anyone.
