Prosecutors said a Minnesota man faked a politically motivated attack in an insurance scam.
They said Dennis Molla sprayed pro-Biden and BLM graffiti on his garage then set it on fire.
He sought a $300,000 insurance payout plus GoFundMe donations, an indictment said.
A Trump supporter falsely claimed his garage was burned by left-wing extremists in a $300,000 insurance-scam attempt, federal prosecutors say.
Dennis Molla, of Minnesota, set his own garage on fire after scrawling it with graffiti of an anarchy symbol, BLM, and Biden 2020 during the last presidential election campaign, according to an indictment reviewed by Insider. Prosecutors said Molla wanted to defraud insurers by claiming he had been politically targeted.
His story gained widespread sympathetic media coverage as he described discovering that his home had been attacked.
On September 23, 2020, Molla told CBS Minnesota that he awoke early that morning to "a loud boom, or a bang" outside his home and saw three people running away.
The outlet cited a police report that said Molla's garage, car, and three other vehicles were on fire.
Molla had been flying Trump 2020 flags at the property, he told CBS. He told police that the attack was politically motivated and referred to it as a "hate crime" in his insurance claim, court documents say.
"For them to see me express my beliefs as a Republican, it's crazy to think it came down to this," he told the Star-Tribune newspaper.

So they found one that fits their narrative and they were giddy to report it. Of course 9 out out 10 of these are done by people on the left and the MSM does not report them.
But I agree this guy needs to be punished for his crime.

Agreed - but note the media trumpet this hoax story but bury all the results of the false racism and fake racist attack stories.
There is absolutely nothing in the article describing the basis on which it is concluded that this guy is responsible for the damage.
Based on that absence, I would withhold judgment.

My gut tells me that he really is a Biden supporter who claims that he’s a Trump supporter. It’s not like we haven’t seen those people pull this kind of crap before.
Insurance companies don’t like to shell out money for claims, ever. I’m sure their investigators went over this guy’s claims with a fine-tooth comb, given the amounts involved. They would then have turned their evidence over to the feds. Banacek would have been all over him, and collected a percentage!
When the Feds are done with him, the State will tag him with Arson in the First Degree. That’s 20 years and a $35,000 fine and they can charge his wife Arson in the First Degree.
Faking acts of political violence, racism, etc should be severely punished.
He’s charged. Not convicted or even on trial yet.
If they had evidence, it was presented to him and would be in the article.
Let’s wait for facts. Remember, citizens do that.
