Yet again, Republican members of the U.S. Senate pitched in to deliver a victory for President Joe Biden and Democrats on Tuesday by helping their across-the-aisle colleagues confirm the president's pick for ATF director.
The U.S. Senate is more of a mess than usual this week as Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is out with COVID, as is Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). Sen. Patrick Leahy is still recovering from a fall that necessitated a hip replacement for the 82-year old Democrat from Vermont. The three sidelined Democrats showed how precarious the majority for Biden's party has become.
The tight math meant that the planned confirmation vote for Biden's second pick to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Steve Dettelbach — was in jeopardy. Reliably, Republicans stepped up to hand Joe Biden a victory and confirm his nominee — the first Senate-approved ATF director in years.
The final vote came down 48-46, with two Republicans — Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Rob Portman of Ohio — voting with all the Democrats present to confirm Dettelbach as the ATF's director.

Of course they did—pathetic
There’s always 2-3 repubs to save the dems.
There is about a half a dozen GOP senate members who take turns crossing over to support the nominations and policies of the left. I don’t know if they draw straws or take political considerations into account to determine which member can take the hit, but they manage to do it on almost everything coming before them. Romney, Graham, Collins, and Murkowski are the others on the list (there may be one or two more).
Inhofe is done....but Lankford is a RINO
Anthony, you must remember that they are all, “in it together!” This is why the Senate and the House are in step with one another. The corruption will continue until the “Swamp is Drained.”
The Swamp will never be drained because the corrupt critters get to pass or fail appointments to the AG and SCOTUS. They put in men and women that will not look into their corrupt practices.
So, we watch, in futility, the modest men become multimillionaires taking the graft and kickbacks from “Foreign Aid.”
It will never end.
Abolish the 17th Amendment, legislatures will pick replacements for two three year terms.
Its the only way to fix the government and the best place to start.
They are, “in it together!” No surprise here, carry on.
Because they’re friggin’ traitors to their voters and the country, that’s why.
A classic example of why looking ahead to a GOP majority in House & Senate will merely slow the communists, not stop them or remove any of the communist-imposed chains we bear...
The last two decades explicitly demonstrates that...
Two WEAK SISTERS!!!
Senator terms should be shorter - maybe 3 years with 9 years max to retirement.
The question really is “Why did these dimmacrats get elected, and then accepted into the Republican Party? Collins is a reliable traitor, and Portman isn’t much better, if any.
“Democrats never seem to have the problem of party discipline.”
Go to any lib message board, you will see this is wrong. They can’t stand Manchin and Sinema for things like not getting rid of the filibuster and for not supporting making DC a state.
FReegards
Collins is a longtime political whore - not sure about the other dork 🤪
After you witnessed legislatures signing off on Biden’s Steal, you still have faith that they will make any difference? All of you “Repeal the 17th” activists might as well give it a rest. IT AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN. If it were to happen, the result could be maybe no better, and just might be worse. Then what would you say?
Portman has always been a lay back in the weeds until needed deep state guy. In my lifetime it seems all of the Ohio repub US senators have been.
Most republicans are on the democrats list, for various reasons. When they get the call to provide the necessary votes, they do what’s required.
