Speed limits in built-up areas look set to be reduced from 30mph to 20mph in Wales from next year - a UK first that is controversial among some drivers. Ministers say a 20mph speed limit will lower road collisions and traffic noise and encourage people to walk and cycle.

Balance “ lower road collisions and traffic noise and encourage people to walk and cycle” with wasted fuel and road rage.

And buried deep in the article is the real reason ( methinks most FReepers instinctively knew this ), WEF/Climate Change Karens :
"Why do some ministers think it will benefit the environment?
Ministers in Cardiff have been promoting sustainable travel - such as cycling or walking - after Wales declared a climate emergency in 2019 and aim to become carbon net zero by 2050.
They think a lower limit might encourage a change in behaviour."

20 kph is about 12½ mph.
But doesn't Britain use the metric system now?
