Our New Antoinettes
American Greatness ^ | 10 Jul, 2022 | VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

These humanitarian rich feel just terrible about the sins of America, but not terrible enough to sacrifice any element of their privileged lifestyles—the just deserts they feel for being so righteous.

But in the short time that the French Revolution became utterly unhinged, toxic, and nihilistic, she became nonetheless iconic as an out-of-touch elite who had lived in a make-believe world at Versailles, without a clue (or care?) about the ordeal of the masses.

“Shortages of everything from baby formula to tampons are making America seem akin to the old Soviet Union.”

As I posted in an answer to another Freepers post, I really think the US is in a downward spiral very much like the Soviet Union was in during the 1980s.

However I wonder if the American government goes down as the Russian did in 1992 or as the French did in 1792.
I suspect the latter. With the Chinese picking up the pieces.

There will be a state secession. That is the best course.

"Hunter Biden, without any apparent income, is renting a $20,000 a month Malibu mansion, necessitating that the Secret Service rent a nearby $30,000 a month mansion to watch over this 50-something trainwreck of an adult. The elite know that Hunter's prior income came from quid pro quo shakedowns of foreign governments, that he failed to pay taxes in a manner that would earn any other American a jail sentence, and that he is exempt from investigation."

Ah yes... It's very cool to be in the elite..

Great summary of the current situation by VDH. What he misses though are the collaborators. The privileged Bush family, Romney, Liz Cheney, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan. All wealthy self proclaimed conservatives who disdain the middle class and working people who elect them to public office. They too are soft on crime, support the open southern border, readily send the children of the middle and working classes to fight in pointless wars, burden future generations with trillions of debt, facilitate the exportation of middle class and working class jobs, send their children to the same elite leftist private schools as the progressives, and live in the same wealthy enclaves as their progressive friends. Given the choice of dinner tonight with a randomly chosen citizen from Kentucky, and a wealthy donor or any leader from the political opposition, there is no doubt the choice he will make every time.

The American people are an abstract to the elites of both parties. The citizens of this country are numbers on a spreadsheet to be ruled and manipulated through propaganda and the brute force of laws and regulations. There is no empathy, no concern, and complete disinterest in the living conditions in the heartland. The elites have no more interest in individual liberty for the people than the nobility of the Middle Ages had for the serfs. The purpose of the citizen serf is to produce and serve the state while living and then to die when she/he can no longer produce.

“There will be a state secession. That is the best course”

Except the Government will respond in the same manner Lincoln did.
First a show of force, then a Scorched Earth policy. 21st Century style.

"I really think the US is in a downward spiral very much like the Soviet Union was in during the 1980s."

Yes, and I believe President Reagan saw that the people of USSR were very displeased with their situation and knew that the slightest push and the whole thing would come tumbling down..

A lot of folks are becoming very displeased with DC..

I agree 100% with every word. Well-stated!

“Freedom is a fragile thing and it’s never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by way of inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. And those in world history who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”

Ronald Reagan 1967

With the Chinese picking up the pieces.

China may pick up the international pieces, but as long as Americans are armed, it would be difficult to invade the USA from without…

Blah blah blah, I hate liberals yada yada yada

But, words words do nothing.

Jennnifer is not protested at her home. She is not blockaded in her house. She is alive and breathing. Conservatives are apathetic

The actual quote is

If they have no bread, let them eat cake.

Revisionists hate the expression and deny it was ever made

“Americans are armed, “

You have much more faith in the “American Spirit” than I.
Instead of Red Dawn, I suspect we will be seeing Gun Buybacks and a few Wacos to send the message.
