HARRISON's BAR, JAMES RIVER, Saturday, July 5, 1862.
The army is now comfortably settled in better and pleasanter quarters than any which they have occupied for several months. The rain which on Thursday drenched the camps and made almost impassable the roads, has not been repeated, but has been replaced by sunny skies and cooling breezes. In an astonishingly short space of time, the various corps have taken assigned positions and prepared the ground for a successful defence. The enemy, who yesterday appeared in some force on our right, and did a little in the way of artillery firing, have not declared their presence to-day by any offensive action. Gen. FRANKLIN assures me that the right, as at present supported, can stand and maintain its ground against 100,000 of the most ferocious rebels that can be thrown upon it. Indeed, at all points along the line, there is not the slightest apprehension of danger from an attacking enemy. So thoroughly protected, the army is getting that rest which it so much needs, and is ready to-day to do over again what it has so handsomely done in the last two weeks. It is the general impression that the rebel force removed eighteen miles from Richmond, its base occupying a country which the Union forces have already cleared of its forage, worn by constant labor, and unable to make any further advance, has been depleted of a considerable portion of its men, sent back to Richmond. If they were in strong numbers, and able to make any powerful attack, this army would not have been allowed to rest as they have during the last three days. They know as well as we do that every hour of delay in making such an attack multiplies alarmingly the difficulties of the undertaking,
