A 16-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after he helped rescue four people when a car drove off a boat launch and into a Mississippi river.
The incident happened Sunday at around 2:30 a.m., when the car, which had three teenage girls inside, drove into the Pascagoula River in Moss Point, floated about 20 feet away from shore and started sinking, the Moss Point Police Department said in a statement.
"The driver of that vehicle stated she was following her GPS and did not realize she was going into the water," police said.
Corion Evans, 16, said he immediately ran over, took off his shoes and shirt and went into the water when he saw the car sinking and heard the three occupants shouting for help.
"I was just like, 'I can't let none of these folks die. They need to get out the water,'" Evans, a Pascagoula High School student, told Biloxi, Mississippi, ABC affiliate WLOX. "So, I just started getting them. I wasn't even thinking about nothing else."

Tsk tsk. Just more toxic masculinity. /s
Ha….me too!! Good work young man.
I wonder what his pronouns are? He/him, likely, if any!
Teen age girls at 2:30 AM?
Yea sure blame it on GPS.
Glad they are ok.
Bless that young hero
Yes, that’s amazing he could find them. From the looks of the map that river is pretty wide there. Maybe snakes there too. He sure is brave.
Because we only see the bad eggs in that community sometimes. It’s great to see example of someone doing something good
It really shouldn't.
But, we're not in that land anymore.
That’s a lot of people at a boat ramp at 2:30a.m.
Good thing police were not on the scene. The girls would have likely drowned and he would be under arrest for interfering.
His parents must have started him young. Good.
In know a truck driver from a previous life who said he very well could have ended up like Reginald Denny without them.
Its a good thing they weren't touring the Grand Canyon.
Police were on the scene, as the headline implies. Mr. Evans helped one of them at one point.
Awesome!
Excellent! Obviously a young man with is heart in the right place and the bravery to back it up. Bravo!
We ALL need to make the effort to do more good and kind things for others. If everybody makes their little corner of the world better, the whole place shapes up and attitudes follow along.
This kid is an honest to God Hero.
Now I just pray the fame doesn’t f&*k him up.
I had GPS lead me in a circle once, through an alley. The 7-11 guy set me straight after several tries.
I nominate this Amish kid as “Man of the Year”
Hats off to you, Mr. Evans.
Note to self: When driving and using a GPS, remember to look out the windshield occasionally.
