SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man was killed by fireworks on Monday night, according to the San Antonio Police Department. It happened around 12:20 a.m. in the 800 block of Harriman Place on the city’s Southwest Side.
The medical examiner’s office identified the man killed as Pablo Ruiz, 43. His cause of death was determined to be a head injury due to a fireworks mishap/incident.
According to police, a witness and Ruiz were shooting fireworks and had been drinking when he decided to light a mortar-style firework from on top of his head.
Police said the firework exploded from the bottom of the tube, piercing the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene
Mortar style round. Like having a 1/4 stick of dynamite blow up on your head.
Get your AR15 and go sit in the front in a lawn chair and drink a beer. Say nothing.

When I was 7 or 8, my older brother told me to lie on the ground as he launched a water rocket, as I’d get a “really good view” from below. I had never paid attention to what happened to the water following launch, nor did I understand physics. I felt so dumb, and I was only 7 or 8. Imagine how this guy feels!
Not the first time this has happened. Mortar fireworks are great fun ... when placed on a literal concrete block for launching. “Blockhead” is figurative, not literal.
The good news?
He’s now going to get a million hits on his YouTube channel.
The bad news? He dead.
The other good news? The gene pool has been cleansed.

And let us not forget, shooting fireworks is ILLEGAL within the city limits of San Antonio, so even if he HAD survived, he would still be having a very bad day today.
