It is the age-old problem. Balancing buns. Whether you are doing the math of 8 hot dogs in a package and 12 buns in a bag, or half your guests are eating their burgers "keto-style" on slabs of lettuce, it seems inevitable that you will wake up the morning after any backyard barbecue with a lot more leftover buns than you have leftover meat to put in them. And we all know that despite the logic, thinking of them as bread for sandwiches tends to not go over terribly well with kids.

I have the unique problem of a husband who gets an occasional craving for burgers on nights it is just the two of us. Which means I am always opening the bread box to six leftover buns the next day. Buns, because they are pre-sliced, tend not to freeze terribly well; they are prone to freezer burn and iciness. So, I have had to come up with some creative uses for these orphaned breadstuffs so that I don't end up tossing a bag full of penicillin the week after burger night.
Here are some of my favorite ways to use them up!

Easy enough. I just use regular sandwich bread for my hot dogs. Buns are too thick and don’t usually taste all that good to me.
Throw them in the yard and let the birds eat them.
Each roll’s halves are not equal in size???
Making them is easy. And since they are not sliced until you do it they freeze nicely.
I don’t overbuy so its not an issue. If i had leftovers i wouldn’t getto in awhile I would freeze them.
I suppose the millenials haven’t been taught hardly anything about life, as “mom and dad” just microwave lean cuisines now, so I guess these types of things deserve entire articles now.
I don’t really like hotdog buns...they overwhelm the dog....when we were kids we used a nice slice of white bread....
Accidentally bought Brat buns which are wider than regular dog buns.
Works out perfectly for two dogs side by side.
Give me a break. Anybody that needs a Yahoo article to tell them what to do with leftover buns...just needs to slice their wrists.
What are leftovers?
That’s what poor folks do and tell their kids that’s the reason. Not saying you were poor but perhaps your parents were thrifty.
Roll them up in a flour tortilla.
Even the street taco size is works well.
I’m solo this holiday and cleaned out the freezer. 8 burgers, 8 dogs, 4 knockworst and 5lbs of whole wings. Yes, there will be leftovers.
Yeah, like “one of these is not like the other.”
They freeze and keep pretty well for me when I put each bun in a ziploc sandwich baggie, and then put all the baggies into a larger double ziploc bag before freezing them. Upon taking one out for a burger, I thaw it, spread it open and grill it in butter in the skillet. That freshens it up and it tastes great.
Buy 6 packages of 8 dogs and 4 packages of 12 buns.
I always eat toast with my bacon and eggs every morning. I put leftover buns in the toaster oven for a while and pour melted butter on them for my morning toast.
.
Unfortunately we would lose some Freepers along with the rest.
When the covid hoax first enabled the government to engineer food shorages I had Freepers tell me that they couldnt eat preblended eggs because they only liked sunny side up and that they couldnt drink milk from containers larger than a gallon even though the clamp hose makes it easier handling.
If bad times come we cant make it our personal responsibility to save everyone.
Tis true...you gotta be flexible.
We use leftover hotdog/hamburger buns for a variety of things. Flattened grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese toast, cinnamon toast, garlic bread with spaghetti, ham sammiches, croutons on salad...the list is endless. We don’t waste food around here!
