Isn’t there some statistic about shootouts with pistols?
3 seconds, 3 meters, 3 shots. Something like that?

I have taught women point-shoot and they did very well.
Then they wanted to practice aiming and were all over the place.

if you feel you need sights, at covid distance,
maybe a handgun isn’t for you...

Aiming is essential with a rifle.
Handguns should be point and shoot.
Your finger will point at anything automatically. You do not have to aim.
HOWEVER, you will have to practice a great deal to reach the point where you point the handgun the way you point your finger.

Same is true of shooting pool. If you don’t have a reliable stroke, accurate aiming isn’t going to help you.

Leatham cheats - he practices.
I, however, proved his case at the range yesterday. You can shoot very satisfactorily without aiming. Now I have to work on the hitting something part.

My daughter said to me “if I can point my finger at you, I can hit you with my shot”

She is right.
People tend to overthink with handguns.
But you have to be comfortable with your gun or even with hand guns in general. Which is why even if you are already a good shot you should practice at least once a month. Make sure your muscle memory stays sharp.

I used “Point Shooting” with my Red Rider BB gun 65 years ago. It really helps me now since my eyes have 78 years on them and a good sight picture is not possible anymore. I know the Red Rider is a BB rifle but the same principle applies.

I was told by an at the time active SEAL that they go down to the range daily and go thru 500-1500 rounds, generally practicing point shooting, as this is a perishable skill that they MUST have.

It is their job. And they are not paying for their own ammo.
For normal people once a month should keep you sharp enough striking a good balance between time and cost required and skills you need.
Too many people do not do beyond the minimum to keep their carry permit.

Point and shoot.. what I practice, cannot help but be off slightly due to parallax. Brain can’t help it w/o conscious override.
