The virus that causes COVID-19 undertakes a massive takeover of the body's fat-processing system, creating cellular storehouses of fat that empower the virus to hijack the body's molecular machinery and cause disease.
After scientists discovered the important role of fat for SARS-CoV-2, they used weight-loss drugs and other fat-targeting compounds to try to stop the virus in cell culture. Cut off from its fatty fuel, the virus stopped replicating within 48 hours.
The team embarked on the study based on observations that people with a high body-mass index and conditions like cardiovascular disease and diabetes are more sensitive to the disease.
The team studied the effect of SARS-CoV-2 on more than 400 lipids in two different human cell lines. Scientists found a massive shift in lipid levels, with some fats increasing as much as 64-fold. In one cell line, nearly 80 percent of fats were altered by the virus; in the other, levels of slightly more than half were changed.
The lipids affected most were triglycerides, those little packets of fat that most patients try to keep to a minimum. Triglycerides are crucial for our health, allowing us to store energy and to maintain healthy membranes in our cells.
It turns out that those are also critical for the COVID virus.
When we need energy, cells break up the triglycerides into useful raw material—three fatty acids that each triglyceride molecule contains.
The team found SARS-CoV2 doesn't simply boost the number of triglycerides in our cells. The virus also changes much of our fat-processing system, changing the body's ability to use fat as fuel.
An approved weight-loss medication, Orlistat, a lipase inhibitor, stopped viral replication. An experimental compound known as GSK2194069 also stopped the virus. These and other compounds worked against all the SARS-CoV2 variants tested: alpha, beta, gamma and delta.

Orlistat is also known as “Alli,” which is available as an over the counter product. The researchers found all types of COVID were blocked from replication within 48 hours.
They state this was only done in a lab and not on mice, but, honestly, cutting triglycerides is universally good and orlistat is not apparently filled with much in the way of side effects or interactions, judging from WebMDs write up, but, as always, check with your doctor.
“people with a high body-mass index and conditions like cardiovascular disease and diabetes are more sensitive to the disease”
Gee, it sounds almost like the virus was engineered to target the least fit members of society...
Yet another reason not to be fat.
I lost 15 pounds. Doesn’t sound consistent with this article.
The obese get obesier.
Or an entire decadent obese culture.Hmmm???

This is not a scientific study. it’s a sales pitch for more prescription meds.
I had coof in May and lost twenty pounds so pardon me if I call BS on this one.
Like many of you, the medical community at every level from my small town up to CDC and Anthony Faucilli have damaged their credibility so thoroughly that, even if a report like this is true, I doubt it. Sounds like just another “Get vaxxed or die” pitch. In any case, I’ll take my chances with having had covid.
Still astonished that people who rant at eating gmo meats and grains would scream at me to inject mrna into my body just because they did.
And recall millions of jars of peanut butter because a batch “might” be tainted while ignoring the adverse effects of that very mrna.
What a world.
Yeah, really! I have a friend who won’t lick an envelope because of the potential harm to her body (Whole Foods, vegan, Prius, green), but she ran out like her hair was on fire to get injected with the vax 3 times!
Interesting. Maybe weighing only 90 lbs isn’t all bad.
Hey! I resemble that remark!
I'm doomed, doomed I say.Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Quarantine the sick. Protect the vulnerable. Hang the guilty. Free everyone else.

What we saw with family members with the Delta last summer, the Omni Crud earlier this year and whatever 4th or 5th generation Crud is in the midwest at this time might backup your comment.
Last summer 2 guys/one a DNA Son, in their 50’s and in good shape but with a few extra pounds got hammered with the Delta for 4-6 days. They took one of the off package insert regimens and stayed out of the hospital. Their dance instructor wives and skinny kids from age 5 to 21 never had any form of the Delta or Crud.
My wife’s family (3 generations from ages 78 to early 20’s)
had and are being released from isolation) in the MidWest.
One is a 78 year old brother in great shape, (He still fits into his Nam Dress Blues). He had a one degree temp for a day and sneezes for a couple of days. He came home yesterday.)
His 2 grandsons in their mid to late 20’s were quarantined : They played college soccer and basketball, never had fever just runny noses. They went home on Saturday.
His 50 something daughter/my wife’s niece, who played college volleyball and basketball and still fits into her college age clothes was freed from quarantine with her two sons noted above.
Her husband, is a few pounds overweight and recently retired as an office bound engineer. Got hammered and is still under quarantine.
A non relative, a 78 year old female friend of my wife’s bro never tested positive. She walks/runs and rides bikes competitively. She was exposed to everyone in this family, several times.
Thanks for the ping.
That was some humorous commentary right there!! :)
Family had Covid at thanksgiving. Although my husband isnt overweight , he likes his sweets a little too much and he had the worst of it. I went walking even with Covid because (expletive) Fauci, that’s why. I don’t know how to test for horrible Covid attitude by my son and I had it. But no way I was letting this designer virus win.
“I went walking even with Covid because (expletive) Fauci, that’s why.”
LOL!! Love it.
I’m telling ya…I was MEAN during covid. My son felt that way too. Very weird.
