(CNN)Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams on Sunday called for a legislative solution that would restore nationwide access to abortion following last week's US Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade as some states, including her own, move to restrict the procedure. "We know that the right to choose should not be divvied up amongst states. And that the sinister practice of taking constitutional rights and allowing each state to decide the quality of your citizenship is wrong. Women deserve bodily autonomy, they deserve the right to make these choices," Abrams told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union." Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Abram's Republican opponent in November, signed a bill in 2019 that bans abortions when a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy -- when many women don't yet know they're pregnant. The law was later blocked by a federal district judge as unconstitutional. On Friday, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, a Republican, filed a notice with the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals, requesting it reverse the district court's decision and allow the state's abortion law to go into effect, a move touted by Kemp.
"In Georgia in particular, in a matter of days, this six-week ban will be the law of the land. That is horrendous. That is appalling. And it is wrong. And, as the next governor, I'm going to do everything in my power to reverse it," Abrams said Sunday.

They are free to waste time and money on a constitutional amendment, but you need 38 states. At best, they might get to 20. But I’ll add this...once you say ‘birthing-people’ instead of women, that stands as a problem in half that 20.

We know how “voting” is manipulated for the desired outcome; we had it shoved in our faces in 2020. “Support” for baby-killing is promoted 24/7, fake polls show “overwhelming support”, and voting in State referendums will be controlled, manipulated, and they WILL have it their way.
Planned Parenthood will continue to be funded by taxpayers, no matter what.
The communists think there is a central legislative solution to everything. If not, the courts must then legislate.

By eliminating Roe and Casey, the SCOTUS gave away power to the states. Roberts concurrence would have made the court more powerful, which is why he is an unreliable justice.

Maybe abrams should also demand legislation that will finally define what is and is not a Woman under the law.

I have heard lawyers saying this was the next step, both in person and on television. Nobody, it seems read the SCOTUS opinion. The SCOTUS granted the power to the states, and stated so. Federal abortion laws would therefore be illegal, and probably struck down quickly by the SCOTUS. Let’s just say they did stand, then it would likely be voided by the next conservative take over of government. Furthermore, if they can legislate abortion on a Federal level, then they can make it illegal nationwide.
This is a stupid approach for the Democrats to take, and it demonstrates the lack of understanding and adherence to
Democracy by the Democrats. They only like Democracy when they get what they want, not when it turns on them.
Democrats want legal abortion, they need to start the amendment process.
All parts that does not give them what they want.

Didn’t the supreme court just say that abortion is not a federal issue? I guess there could be an amendment to the constitution.
