The 18 states which IMMEDIATELY outlawed abortion, including Democrat-led Michigan and Wisconsin, as soon as Roe v. Wade was overturned thanks to 'trigger laws' set up in anticipation

Abortion was automatically outlawed in 18 US states as soon as Roe v. Wade was overturned, thanks to specially-devised 'trigger laws' and historic bans that were automatically reenacted after Friday's ruling.

Thirteen states prepared trigger laws which would automatically outlaw terminations in the event of a ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, which was widely-anticipated.

They are: Arkansas; Idaho; Kentucky; Louisiana; Mississippi; Missouri; North Dakota; Oklahoma; South Dakota; Tennessee; Texas; Utah and Wyoming.

Abortion bans in those states will now become law within 30 days.

Five other states have also now banned terminations, after historic laws superseded by the 1973 Roe ruling automatically came back into place.

Among those five are two Democrat-governed states - Michigan and Wisconsin.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers have both sought to overturn those bans in the court. But they remain in place for now, and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced Friday afternoon that it was suspending terminations while awaiting clarification on the law.

Other states with newly-re-enacted historic bans are Alabama, Arizona and West Virginia.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has announced the historic ban will be superseded by a recent law banning terminations after 15 weeks.

But that edict hasn't been enshrined in state law, and pro-lifers could end up battling Ducey to keep the historic ban on all terminations, leaving abortion providers uncertain of whether they can operate in the meantime.

Eight other states are also set to enact new anti-abortion laws. Georgia, Iowa and South Carolina all attempted to ban abortion after the six week mark.

Tony the Teacher called a special session of the Wisconsin legislature to make it legal. Republicans gaveled it adjourned after 25 seconds. That’s how you do it.

Sadly, here in Michigan Whitmer and her lick sister AG have already announced they’ll not prosecute for abortions.

Just received via email from Whitmer -

Dear Michigander,
Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, two years after I was born. For half a century, American women have had control over their own bodies. Now, we no longer do. My daughters and all our kids have fewer rights than many of us have had our entire lives.
A group of unelected, conservative judges have overturned Roe v. Wade and stripped reproductive rights from tens of millions of Americans. Millions of Americans – our neighbors, family members, and friends – are feeling despair in this moment. And while we were warned the decision was coming, it doesn’t make the news any less devastating.
With Roe gone, Michigan’s draconian 1931 law banning abortion even in the case of rape or incest and criminalizing doctors and nurses for providing that reproductive health care can take effect. For now, a Michigan court has put a temporary hold on the law, but the injunction has already been challenged by Republican leaders in the legislature, leaving us with no sense of permanency.
Under the 1931 law, health care professionals could be charged with a felony for performing an abortion and Planned Parenthood and independent health clinics in Michigan could be forced to close, denying women access to birth control, cancer screenings, and other lifesaving care. A group of Michigan legislators went even further, introducing a bill to enact a 10-year prison sentence for doctors and nurses and a 20-year sentence for anyone manufacturing, selling, or distributing birth control medication.
That’s why I filed a lawsuit in April to ask the Michigan Supreme Court to resolve whether Michigan’s constitution protects the right to an abortion. And after the Roe decision was issued, I filed a motion urging the Supreme Court to immediately consider my lawsuit.
I have also issued an executive directive instructing State of Michigan departments and agencies to identify opportunities to improve protections for all forms of reproductive health care, such as contraception, long-acting reversible contraception, and emergency contraception. The executive directive also instructs departments not to cooperate with or assist authorities of any state in any proceeding or investigation against anyone for obtaining, providing or assisting someone else in obtaining or providing reproductive healthcare that is legal where the healthcare is provided.
However we personally feel about abortion, health – not politics – should drive important medical decisions. We need to trust women – our friends, family, and neighbors – to make the decisions that are best for them about their bodies and lives and keep politicians out of it.
No matter what happens from here, I am going to fight like hell to protect every Michigander’s right to make decisions about their own body. I am in this fight for my kids, our kids, and the future of our great state. I will not give in or give up –and I know you won’t either.
Sincerely,

Gretchen Whitmer
Governor of Michigan

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) has filed a lawsuit directly to the state Supreme Court, arguing that an abortion “trigger law,” which would go into effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned, violates the state’s constitution.

A 1931 law banning nearly all abortions in Michigan would automatically go into effect should the U.S. Supreme Court decide later this year to dismantle the 1973 ruling establishing abortion protections. In December, lawyers representing Mississippi lawmakers argued in favor of overturning Roe during oral arguments over the state’s 15-week abortion ban.

In response, the conservative-majority justices on the Supreme Court have indicated a willingness to undo or at least significantly undermine the protections recognized in Roe.

The Michigan law is still technically on the books, but it has been unenforceable since Roe went into effect. If the law is re-enforced, it would ban abortions in the state at all stages of pregnancy, including in cases of rape or incest, and would only allow the procedure if a pregnant person’s life is at risk.

Whitmer filed her lawsuit in the Oakland County Circuit Court — but using powers she has as a governor, she advanced the litigation directly to the state Supreme Court for consideration.

According to reporting from The Detroit News, Whitmer’s lawsuit claims that the 1931 law is “unconstitutionally vague” and violates rights to “privacy, liberty, bodily integrity, and equal protection” under the state constitution and other statutes.

“No matter what happens to Roe, I am going to fight like hell and use all the tools I have as governor to ensure reproductive freedom is a right for all women in Michigan,” Whitmer said in a statement. “If the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to protect the constitutional right to an abortion, the Michigan Supreme Court should step in.”

Whitmer also explained the reason for her lawsuit on social media.

“If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, Michiganders could be forced to live under a dangerous 1931 state law that criminalizes abortion. Not on my watch,” she said.

Requests to expedite lawsuits straight to the state Supreme Court are rare and seldom granted. Just this past week, for example, the court refused an expedited appeal from state Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) to hear a case on regulations relating to the pandemic.

Still, the chances of the appeal aren’t impossible — and as the court currently has a 4-3 majority of Democratic-appointed justices, it may be receptive to hearing Whitmer’s lawsuit.

A number of anti-abortion lawmakers across the U.S., particularly in conservative-leaning Republican-controlled states, have passed and enacted restrictive bills and abortion bans. But several states have also seen pro-abortion lawmakers pressing for added protections, in anticipation of the possibility that Roe gets overturned.

On Monday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) signed into law a bill that codified abortion rights and protections. “In the State of Colorado, the serious decision to start or end a pregnancy with medical assistance will remain between a person, their doctor, and their faith,” Polis said in a statement.

Meanwhile, lawmakers in California have been pushing to make the state a “sanctuary” for anyone seeking an abortion — not just in California, but throughout the entire U.S.

Within the state legislature, the Legislative Women’s Caucus has introduced eight bills to protect the right to get an abortion — including a bill that seeks to enhance privacy statutes, ensuring that those who are traveling from out of state cannot be punished for getting an abortion in California.

I hope so.

This ruling will demonstrate EXACTLY where Kemp, Ralston, Miller and Carr stand. There are some pretty Conservative types representing rural Georgia. It’s going to be interesting to see if any of them draft something and whether the aforementioned obstruct them to appease Hollywood and the other Leftists invading the state.

Smart money is Kemp, Inc won’t let a bill come to a vote.

Thus far, I have been quite surprised by what I consider to be a muted reaction to the decision. I literally thought there would be rioting and burning akin to the George Floyd riots.
Hope it continues this way. I’m tired of temper tantrums from people who can’t defend their ideas.
