Florida Sailcats hurt like hell!...................
Poor kid! Hope he’s OK. He can then join me, and others, as we avoid open water at all costs!
If I can’t swim to shore, I ain’t gettin’ in the boat! ;)
Those guys that are in the water catching them with their hands are crazy
I’ve been jabbed in the foot and ankle by several catfish in the past. Hurt like hell. I’m thinking this kid picked up the catfish and then slipped or tripped and fell on top him and getting his chest impelled by the sharp dorsal fin.
Who knew there were venomous catfish?
Catfish have huge spines on their pectorial fins that prevent them from being swollowed tail first.
They usually break off after the fish is over a foot or so long.
You can get serious infections from the other spines but it’s nothing like a stingray.
” The child “ ?
The article never says if “ the child “ is a girl, or a boy.
PC is completely out-of-control.
One time my brother was in the emergency room for something, the patient in the next bay came in with a catfish stuck on his foot by the barb. I don’t know why he didn’t cut the fish off and just have the barb attached before he arrived. My brother said he thinks every doctor and nurse in the hospital had to “consult” on that treatment (i.e. look at the fish on the foot).
I suspect the child was leaning over the fish to take a close look at it when it suddenly flopped up with the spike entering the child’s chest.
A channel cat dorsal will ruin your day.
Me, hand and leg.
I did eat the sobs.

I had one go through my foot once. Unpleasant!
