If I am in Pacific Grove, I love to eat lunch in the park above this beach. There are often surfers there. I've seen an otter there, and maybe seals before, but never sharks. I was eating there in December, and a seagull grabbed food out of my hand as I was eating it.
Pacific Grove used to be a Methodist colony, and Lovers Point Beach was called Lovers of Christ Point Beach.

Lovers Point Beach in Pacific Grove
Visited there often, beautiful area. The drive down Hwy 1 from SF with the kidos was always a great adventure. The good old days.

I know this area. Many, many years ago we had retreats at Asilomar, practically next door to here.

"An off-duty Sacramento police officer and his wife were paddle boarding near Lovers Point when they saw the swimmer in distress...“We immediately paddled to him,” the off-duty officer told KRON4." Good thing this wasn't Uvalde, TX. The officer would have waited for a shark cage before moving in.

Wow!
Lovers is a pretty safe place.
Now Pt Lobos, you need to keep close eye on the ocean.

My late wife was from Monterey. I love PG.
I believe Lovers Point is where John Denver crashed and died. Pacific Grove is also the home of the Asilomar State Beach and Conference Center.

I have done the Triathlon at Pacific Grove about ten times. The swim leg is three laps around that cove. (...and I was one of the slowest swimmers! Yikes!)

Pacific Grove is a great town. Such a beautiful place. My wife and I stayed at the "Hotel Seven Gables" years ago when we were able to get away for a night when the kids were little (which wasn't very often). We took the kids to Pacific Grove on another trip and I think we saw whales in the bay from the shore.
I shudder to think what the prices are at this quaint hotel now.

Sea gulls here on the Jersey Shore do that too.
The big Herring Gulls can be pretty aggressive.
