A woman who goes dumpster diving for wasted food has revealed how her impressive hauls are ensuring she can save for a housing deposit while living in an expensive city
A woman has slashed her food bill to less than £100 a MONTH for her and her boyfriend by dumpster diving - which is helping save for a housing deposit.
Marketing manager Caitlin Weich, 29, decided to root through supermarket dumpsters for discarded goods in a bid to slash her outgoings and help her protect the planet.
She also collects unwanted food from neighbours and friends during her lunch break to ensure she keeps her food bill as low as possible.
Caitlin, who lives in Dublin, Ireland, with her boyfriend Adam, 28, says they eat like kings on a tiny budget, adding: "We spend as little as 100 euros (£85) a month for the two of us.
"My partner and I have been saving for the last couple of years to try and put together a deposit for a house, so we are definitely aware of our budget and saving where we can.

No thanks I’ve smelled a dumpster

I am a cheapskate. I have no problem with someone going through trash for perfectly good food. But what about the real cost? What is more valuable. A couple extra hours at work to buy the food you want, or hours digging through garbage. Then again, it could be the thrill of the hunt.
Maybe dumpster diving is a workout?
We could slash our food and gas bills by much more than that by finding leftist politicians (to include a certain Slow Joe and the Ho) and dumping them into a dumpster.
Oh, and then locking the lid.
every time I see one of these stories I think about bedbugs
Good thing she kept it a secret.
Food from a dumpster is food the Raccoons rejected
Really? How do they taste?
It’s only a little food poisoning.
As a landfill scrounge who has taken truckloads of wood from the dump and turned it into church pulpits and other furniture, you might want to not be too hard on dumpster divers. Sure, there’s a lot of untouchable stuff, but there’s also stuff people can use.
Aldi’s throws away perfectly good food still in packages-even years ago a friend of mine dumpster dived for it. I assume she still does. Nope for me, unless starving. Yech
Racoons and rats.
“Don’t invite me for dinner.” “Don’t invite me for dinner.”
Yeah. Hunter gathere societies cannot grow large and/or don’t last long.
