Fox News host Pete Hegseth has decided to put his Masters of Public Policy diploma from Harvard University in an envelope marked “return to sender.” In his new book American Crusade, the highly decorated Iraq and Afghanistan veteran tells his alma mater “Thank you for the ‘education,' but I can no longer support your leftist cause” and encourages others to do the same.
He’s not the only one suffering from what I call “educational remorse.” Some time ago, cartoonist Scott Adams of “Dilbert” fame blogged that he would stop donating to UC-Berkeley.
At the time, Mr. Adams stated “…I’m ending my support of UC Berkeley, where I got my MBA years ago. I have been a big supporter lately, with both my time and money, but that ends today. I wish them well, but I wouldn’t feel safe or welcome on the campus. A Berkeley professor made that clear to me recently. He seems smart, so I’ll take his word for it.”
It’s clear from recent history that conservative voices aren’t welcome at today’s universities, where they get in the way of student indoctrination by professors. Instances abound in which speakers from the center and right are the targets of protests and shouted down before they can even begin to discuss the issues of the day. And that’s if they get to the podium at all; it’s just as likely that they’ll be disinvited the day after they accept the invitation.
Given that there is such a lack of free discourse in today’s educational system, it makes you wonder why moderates and conservatives still donate to their colleges. Is it to remember and honor the good old days? Is it some kind of guilt?

While we are on the subject, stop donating to art schools period.
If you REALLY want to hurt them, find out how to get Marxists off the board of governors of the College.
In my state, the governor appoints them. Make sure s/he knows that a condition of support will be to 1) threaten funding if the nonsense does not stop and 2) appoint people not dedicated to turning the schools into a Marxist cesspool.
There’s a much more worthy cause. Sewer workers need a bonus to incentivize their dedication to this thankless job. Without them we’d all be in deep sh!t. So take the money you would normally donate to a prestigious leftard university, and flush it down the toilet. Ed Norton will thank you.
I stopped giving to mine years ago. It used to be a decent place...not so anymore.
Even many places that are supposedly faith-based have gone off a cliff in recent years as well.
‘Donating’ includes paying $60k to send your kid there.
Had a good education when there were issues to discuss...the leftist mobs were just a gleam in the hippies eyes at that time. Now I won’t give them anything except for parking fees. They do decent scientific research....but the student culture is beyond redemption for the most part.
Back in the day, it seemed cutting edge, but now it seems like post high school day care.
Good ideas.
If your governor is a Republican, it might be more effective to organize political pressure on the governor by publicizing his leftist choices for the board.
I have two Alma Maters. Never thought about donating to either. They got enough of my money when I was there.
In my experience most college\university (state or private) boards are only interested in whether they get good seats at football\basketball games, society\cultural events or had opportunities to heap each other with praise through “I-Love-Me-&-Others-Like-Me” event awards. Doing something long-term positive for the school is a best a secondary or tertiary concern.
And how about the forced tax donation to state public education? State colleges and universities too. They’re all filled with leftism to the brim.
Think your local commmunity college isn’t leftist? Go sit in on any government, literature, history, or science class and get back to me.
It’s been that way for well over a decade. More like twenty to thirty years.
In many places you elect community college boards like school boards. Get good candidates there too.
I NEVER gave money to Stanford, even after graduation.
Why would I donate money when I already paid them for my tuition aka their service to me, as a student?
With an endowment of billions, surely they dont need my money. Whenever I see letters from them stating “alumni needs your financial help” I throw it in the trash.
It seems so obvious that we should defund leftist organizations. I don’t get it why we have to be instructed. Is there anything we do to combat the loss of our republic? The left has an agenda...do we?
I turned them down.
I was one of the few in my class who refused to give a donation.
“They got enough of my money when I was there.”
BINGO. My post 16. I fully paid my tuition and owe you nothing financially, what else do you need from me?
I just got my alma mater’s glossy annual report in the mail. It’s beautifully printed, full of fabulous photos . . . and scarcely a white male to be seen, other than a few wimps and a guy in a wheelchair. The place was built, staffed and attended post-WWII by white males, mostly veterans.
