“Just got a quote on a stand by generator. Comes with a cell phone which updates status, etc. Not at all interested.”

My friend is an electrician and licensed Genrac supplier/installer. He told me about the connectivity and I told him I really did not want the generator connected and he said that it was not an issue for him to make sure it wouldn’t.

Oddly though, I have a 1,000 gallon buried propane tank and occasionally that comes up on my wifi as “Tank”. I was never told that this would passively connect through my signal (I never gave them my passowrd). Weird.

There are two plans. One is a $50 annual fee that wifi’s your cell phone. Then there is a plan where the generator uploads status, etc., to a remote dealer who uses that to determine if he needs to do something.

The fruits of opening the doors of the best engineering schools in the world (while they still were) to loads of Chinese students right off the plan from Beijing. That and Bill Clinton selling them the crown jewels of rocket technology. They learned enough reverse engineer all our stuff and have progressed from a medieval society to one that is now able to actually improve on our technology (and make it much more sinister).

Meanwhile, the engineering school I went to is debating whether math is racist. We're doomed.

Why do people need smart appliances? Is the convenience of being able to remotely start your coffee maker really that valuable?

I guess I am aging into a Luddite, but I don’t need my life networked. When I was in my 20s the internet and computers held so much promise, but now it all seems like the uses we put them to and the power given to Big Tech and government intelligence has created more problems than solved.

I have news: the CCP has mandated that all Chinese individuals and companies allow any devices to report all data on anything and everything to the CCP.

Learn to examine barcodes when you buy something. The UPC codes reveal the country of origin of the product:

Barcodes, by Country

U.S.-made product codes start with 0 or 1.

China-made product codes start with 69. (Should be easy to remember — who is screwing us?)

A friend of mine has TikTok on his iPhone. The voice recorder keeps coming on by itself.

Data is the new resource. They’re collecting it to sell.
